On Emmerdale the following week, Amy makes a mistake that puts Matty in danger, Lydia starts to doubt Samson, Kim gives up something to support Billy, and is there any chance for Manpreet and Charles?
1) Matty becomes revealed
Next week, Matty’s (Ash Palmisciano) worst nightmare comes true, and it’s Amy (Natalie Ann Jamieson) who unintentionally puts him in jeopardy!
Not only is Matty’s imprisonment for a crime he did not commit, but he is also a target since he is a transgender man housed in a prison for men. The fact that he disappears every day with prison officials to pick up his prescription testosterone gel and that he is reluctant to leave his cell and interact with other convicts has already led to suspicion among his fellow inmates.
Although he had initially had a cell to himself, he was concerned when the intimidating Les Carmichael (Stacey J Gough) was moved in, fearful that it would be only a matter of time before his secret was out. However, after Les took Matty under his wing and gave him advice about coping in prison, Matty took the brave decision to reveal his secret.
Though curious, Les promised Matty that he would keep things under wraps, and Matty breathed a sigh of relief as Les continued to warn off menacing inmate Robbo (John O’Neill).
As a result, prison life has become a tiny bit more manageable whilst Matty awaits his court date.
“Because Matty’s used to surviving and he’s used to challenges, he’s kind of gotten to a place where he’s got his anxiety in check,” Ash Palmisciano told EverySoap during a recent press call. “He’s figuring out how to do things in there, how to survive, how to cope.”
“He’s got this amazing cellmate that is is sort of teaching him the way, giving him a few tips here and there. There’s some really nasty characters about, but he’s got this friend protecting him.
When Matty arrives, Amy is heartened by his slightly more upbeat demeanor as he tells her how Les has embraced him as a trans guy. He feels that there may be hope now that Amy has informed him that Matty has been assigned a new attorney.
When the allotted time for visits finishes, Amy watches Matty go before Robbo approaches her. When Robbo talks about Matty, Amy thinks he’s talking to Les because of his friendly façade deceiving her.
Amy doesn’t have to wait long before unintentionally telling one of the most dangerous and transphobic prisoners in the prison the truth about Matty.
As Matty returns to his cell, Les is called away to meet with his solicitor, leaving him alone as Robbo then lets himself in. Matty’s blood runs cold when Robbo reveals that he’s just had a very interesting conversation with Amy…
“They have this conversation where Robbo makes it obvious that he knows who Matty is without saying it,” Ash explains. “And you can see that the penny drops within Matty.”
“He just thought he was on the cusp of getting a hold of it and surviving, and he was going to be all right,” Ash continues. “And now he’s been outed by his wife, which is unbelievable. I think Matty thinks at first there’s absolutely no way that she would tell him on purpose, so what has Robbo done to her?”
Robbo later returns and makes it clear that he knows the truth, and Matty is cornered in his cell as Robbo closes in on him…
2) Moira learns of Samson’s getaway plan
Meanwhile, the two who put Matty in this position—Samson (Sam Hall) and his mate Josh (Osian Morgan)—have decided to bring forward their plans to travel Europe.
Moira (Natalie J Robb) is seething when she becomes aware of this development, and vows to stop the pair from departing whilst Matty languishes in prison.
Enraged, Moira walks over to Wishing Well Cottage and confronts James Hooton’s character Sam about Samson’s early departure, demanding to know why. Naturally, Sam is eager to jump to his son’s defense, and he is pleased when Samson later assures his father that he will be back for Matty’s trial.
However, Moira isn’t persuaded and resolves to stop him from leaving the community.
3) Lydia starts to doubt Samson.
Up until now, Stepmum Lydia (Karen Blick) had also upheld Samson’s innocence without question, but a fortuitous meeting on Main Street raises some troubling questions.
Josh threatens Samson with dire consequences if the truth about what actually occurred at The Hide is revealed, pressuring him to keep lying to the police during a contentious conversation.
Viewing this exchange from a distance, Lydia starts to question whether or not she was correct to support Samson in the first place.
Afterwards, Lydia unwillingly visits Moira, who begs her to assist Matty, who is currently in grave danger. Will Lydia, though, come forward with her concerns?
4) Kim offers Billy a sacrifice
Elsewhere, when baby Evan returns home, the mood at Home Farm is still tense.
Evan’s family is making every effort to protect him from any potential infections while he fights leukemia. While Thomas (Bertie Brotherton), the son of Gabby (Rosie Bentham), has moved out, the remaining residents are keeping their interaction with outsiders to a minimum.
Since Evan’s diagnosis, mom Dawn (Olivia Bromley) has hardly left his side, and dad Billy (Jay Kontzle) has been assisted in taking care of the other children, Clemmie (Mabel Addison) and Lucas (Noah Ryan Aspinall), by Kim (Claire King), Will (Dean Andrews), and Rose (Christine Tremarco).
The following week, when Billy gives Evan his prescription, Evan spits it back up. Dawn, who is becoming more and more suspicious, starts blaming Billy for not doing things correctly and seems to be losing faith in him.
Billy’s friend Nate (Jurell Carter) invites him out for a couple beers since he’s starting to lose it. Even though Kim isn’t really impressed when Nate subsequently drives an inebriated Billy home, she nonetheless comes up with a scheme to conceal him from Dawn and cover for his absence until he sobers up.
Dawn accuses someone right away of bringing germs into the house when Evan later shows symptoms of an infection and is sent back to the hospital.
Kim chooses to accept the responsibility herself, realizing that Dawn and Billy’s marriage is already under enough stress, even though Billy is secretly harboring guilt for his involvement with Nate.
5) Rose saves the day
Amidst the bustle surrounding her, Dawn is shocked to discover that she has overlooked Clemmie’s birthday.
After Clemmie’s difficult upbringing, Dawn and Billy were just awarded custody of her last year. However, Clemmie’s first birthday with them was overshadowed by the news that Dawn was expecting Evan.
Because of her fear that she would be rejected by the family, Clemmie briefly fled after inadvertently hurting Dawn’s tummy with a table stool.
When Dawn’s mother Rose realizes that Dawn has forgotten Clemmie’s ninth birthday, she takes advantage of the situation to gain some brownie points by planning an impromptu celebration.
Will and Dawn are grateful to Rose for her quick work and are astounded by what she has accomplished. Kim is left out of the celebration because of her carelessness around Evan, while Rose revels in her success.
Despite Rose’s current advantage over Kim, it seems as though Rose is starting to question Ruby’s (Beth Cordingley) covert scheme to ruin Kim’s life. Given all the heartache already occurring within the family, when Rose and Ruby finally meet, Rose is thinking of backtracking from their agreement, but Ruby is adamant.
Now that Rose has bonded with Dawn and the children, will her conscience permit her to move forward?
6) Charles is missed by Manpreet
Next week, after their recent breakup, Manpreet (Rebecca Sarker) and Charles (Kevin Mathurin) will still be awkward around one other.
After his son Ethan (Emile John) passed away, Charles became so distraught that he had cheated on Manpreet in a drunken tantrum. Charles acknowledged that he no longer wanted to be with her, despite her hopes that he would change his mind after he had gained some maturity.
Despite the fact that their relationship is over, Manpreet moved into the B&B and is doing everything in her power to support Charles during his difficult time.
She tells Charles that she has been missing him as she checks in with him.
Is there a chance of a reconciliation if Charles feels the same way?
7) Gail is prepared.
Mandy (Lisa Riley) and Rhona (Zoe Henry) are still at odds with one another after their recent argument over Paddy’s (Dominic Brunt) board game night.
Mandy wasn’t too thrilled about Paddy’s invitation for Rhona and Marlon (Mark Charnock) to spend the evening with him and Mandy because she thinks Rhona is kind of boring.
After having too many drinks, Mandy became restless and agitated while sitting with the others. She provoked Rhona in front of Paddy, who was uncomfortable and told her to calm down.
Not wishing to witness the women argue, Gail (Rachael Gill-Davis) in The Woolpack devises a scheme to make amends between them by throwing another gathering. Is it destined to fail, though?
8) Jai is refusing to acknowledge
Jai (Chris Bisson) is finding it difficult to accept that Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy) has ended their marriage as she heals from her shocking heart attack this week.
The two had been fighting about his refusal to tell half-brother Suni (Brahmdeo Shannon Ramana) the truth about father Amit’s departure just before Laurel passed out.
From her hospital bed, Laurel ultimately revealed the terrible truth to Suni, which caused him to leave the community with his partner Nicky (Lewis Cope). Laurel subsequently informed Nicola that she could not continue to be wed to “one of the most dishonest, corrupt, and cowardly people I’ve ever had the misfortune to meet.”
Nicola encouraged Laurel when she told Jai the news, but as Jai stays around the following week, Laurel frets that the news hasn’t really hit home.
When Jai tells Laurel’s stepdaughter Gabby (Rosie Bentham) that he would be staying at Mulberry Cottage for a while for the benefit of the kids, she becomes furious and puts on a happy front for everyone.
How long, though, will they be able to maintain the act?
