Ada Nicodemou’s attention is on her second “incredible family” as she counts down the days before the Logies on July 30 rather than on herself. Nicodemou has received seven nominations for one of the prized honors, but she already knows who shouldn’t win the Most Popular Actress prize: it’s not her.

According to the actor, who also stars in Summer Bay and has been playing Irene Roberts since 1993, “I really want Lynne [McGranger] to win.” Can you believe this is her first nomination despite being the show’s longest-running female star?

After Home and Away won the prize for Most Popular Drama at the 2022 ceremony, the cast of the soap is still on a high. The program had a huge year of celebrations, and the cherry on top was that Nicodemou, McGranger, and Emily Symons, another co-star, won three of the six nominations in their category for 2023.

“I think before [our win last year] that the show, it didn’t always get a lot of respect from the industry,” the 46-year-old claims. But because everyone works so hard and because we cover some really important subjects, it’s wonderful to see that it’s finally here.

The first to acknowledge that getting ready for the big night takes “months of planning and preparation” is Nicodemou. Planning what to dress is the nicest part, she exclaims.

Even with rigorous planning, mistakes can still occur. Which brings us to her favorite Logies moment, which happened at the conclusion of the 2010 ceremony.

She explains, “It was the year Ray Meagher won his very well-deserved Gold Logie.” Emily was seated on the opposite side from me. We leapt up and down in celebration when he won, spilling some water all over his crotch. He had to go up on stage to deliver his speech after that, and he’s always blamed me.

She continues with a chuckle, “but I know who really did it and it wasn’t me.

As Leah in Home and Away, Nicodemou debuted in 2000 as a young 22-year-old. Despite spending a whopping 23 years on the show and having a minor role in The Matrix, Hollywood is not where she would rather be.

Can you believe it was only intended to last for six months when I first started? she wonders. “I have no plans to leave! I’ll continue to stay as long as they let me. I adore everyone with whom I work. Every day I look forward to going to work. Although it seems cliche, the cast and crew truly are like a huge, joyful family.

Over the years, Nicodemou has dealt with some crazy storylines, including a husband who came back from the dead and her own few brushes with death, but there’s still one she’d love to try.“I really want to play Leah’s evil twin,” she confesses.
