Home and Away actress Georgie Parker has delighted soap fans as Roo Stewart for more than a decade and as her character faces new challenges, Daily Star takes a look at her life
Georgie Parker is a Summer Bay icon, and she may be set to embark on one of her most demanding storylines yet.
In 2010, the 57-year-old actress debuted as Roo Stewart, the daughter of Alf Stewart (Ray Meagher) and Martha (Belinda Gibson) in the Australian serial.
Roo was originally performed by Justine Clark, but Georgie took over when the character returned to the bay and has been in the role ever since.
Roo is left fearing she is paralyzed after the Stunning Organics explosion in upcoming scenes, as she says she can’t feel her legs.
When Roo’s blood pressure lowers and she quits breathing on her own, things get even worse.
Away from the serial, Georgie has struggled with her own health issues, including a battle with scoliosis, which cut her dancing career hopes short.
Famous husband
Georgie Parker has been acting for many years, and it appears that a love of the big screen runs in the family.
The actress is married to the well-known screenwriter and author Steve Worland.
The couple married in 1999 and had a daughter named Holly in 2000.
Steve is best known for writing the 2014 Australian family film Paper Planes, starring Sam Worthington from Avatar.
He has also written three novels and appeared in the 2002 thriller Swimfan, which starred Jesse Bradford, Erika Christensen, Shiri Appleby, and Jason Ritter.
Throwback snaps
Georgie isn’t afraid to share a gorgeous vintage photo on Instagram.
The actress has had a successful career that has included appearances on television, in musical theater, and in a music video for The Wiggles.
From 1998 to 2005, Georgie portrayed Terri Sullivan in the Australian medical drama All Saints.
She participated in the music video for The Wiggles’ single Racing to the Rainbow in 2006.
Georgie’s dancing career had previously been cut short due to her scoliosis diagnosis.
Scoliosis battle
When her Home and Away character Roo was recovering from kidney donor surgery, Georgie was forthcoming about her own health struggles.
The actress was diagnosed with scoliosis when she was 13 years old.
Speaking about the condition – which curves and twists the spine – to Body+Soul in 2020, Georgie revealed she had “lost about three inches in height” as a result.
In 2017, she told Now To Love: “It impacts me on a daily basis and I just have to stay fit to keep my back as functional as possible.
“I’ve never resented [having scoliosis] and it’s made me realise how lucky I am that, while I have this significant challenge, I can still live my life pretty much how I want to.”
