Home and Away star Ethan Browne has portrayed Tane Parata since February 2020 but the actor revealed he came extremely close to playing a completely different role
Before obtaining the part of Tane Parata, Home and Away actor Ethan Browne almost took on a different role.
In 2020, the actor debuted as Tane and was presented as Ari’s brother and Nikau’s (Kawakawa Fox-Reo) uncle.
The trio created the first neo Mori family to ever appear on the soap, and all three actors collaborated closely with the directors to ensure that the family was realistic.
Ethan received an audition for Home and Away during his final semester at Nida, Australia’s National Institute of Dramatic Arts, after nearly giving up on his acting ambitions.
Speaking to The New Zealand Herald, Ethan revealed he initially auditioned for the role of Ari, played by Rob Kipa-Williams, who departed the soap in 2022 after his character died of cancer.
The soap star said, “Tane didn’t exist. “We want you to read for a new character named Tane, he’s the younger brother of Ari,” the callback said.
Ethan, who is from the New Zealand town of Wairoa, admitted that seeing so many well-known people during his audition made him feel uncomfortable.
I’m way out of my league here, I thought as I watched these people grow up, he said.
But only a few days later did Ethan learn that he had landed the job.
The actor, who is entering his fourth season on the Australian serial, acknowledged that arriving on set still seems strange.
“It’s still strange to me. I never imagined that would happen,” he admitted to the magazine. “When I was younger, I had several aspirations, but the one I always desired the most was to be in a movie.
Coming from a location like Wairoa, “I never thought it would be possible.”
Tane’s wife Felicity (Jacqui Purvis) stated she was the victim of blackmail after being sexually assaulted during the episode that aired on Tuesday (August 29).
Tane wanted to call the police, but Felicity insisted that nobody, not even her brother Cash (Nicholas Cartwright), could find out.
After receiving a second text, Felicity informed Tane that she intended to compensate her assailant.
