Charlie Lawson, a former cast member of Coronation Street, requested that Eamonn Holmes officiate the event.

The wedding of former Coronation Street actor Charlie Lawson will be officiated by Northern Irish broadcaster Eamonn Holmes.

After being invited to officiate the imminent wedding of County Fermanagh-born Lawson, who spent 11 years playing Jim McDonald in the ITV serial opera, the 63-year-old GB News host joked that he should become “some sort of preacher”

The 63-year-old actor, who has appeared in sporadic Coronation Street episodes since leaving the show in 2000, is getting married to entrepreneur Debbie Stanley after being engaged to her for more than ten years.

Holmes made the announcement on GB News on Tuesday while talking about international pop artist Ed Sheeran gatecrashing a wedding in Las Vegas.

This is a window into my life, he declared. My daughter is getting married in the next room; wouldn’t you go in and see them? I can’t stay at a hotel without someone coming up to me and tapping me on the shoulder.

“We don’t just want you to go to the wedding, we want you to conduct the ceremony,” a close friend who’s wedding I was attending stated to me over the phone two weeks ago.

“So, I’ve laid to rest George Best, correct? Therefore, his family called me and requested that you officiate at George’s funeral rather than asking for a priest or anything else.

And now Jim McDonald from Coronation Street, who is Charlie Lawson, and I are going to get married.

“There you are, then. Maybe I might train to be a preacher of some type.

While the wedding’s date and venue are yet unknown, Lawson uploaded a photo of his future wife on Instagram with the statement, “The girl I’m gonna marry very soon.”
