In a forthcoming Coronation Street funeral, things won’t go quite as planned as a fight breaks out amid escalating turmoil.
In a recent episode, Paul Foreman’s (Peter Ash) companion Shelly tragically passed away from motor neurone illness.
After receiving his diagnosis, Paul first encountered Shelly at an MND support group and felt an immediate connection.
Paul gained insight into his future and how his path would unfold from Shelly’s MND, which was more advanced than his.
Paul visited Shelly frequently, and the two of them had grown close; as a result, he was grieved to learn of her passing.
Paul decided that he would be the one to arrange Shelly’s burial after learning from her caregiver that she had no family.
The funeral for Shelly will be officiated by Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) in subsequent episodes, but it won’t go as Paul expects.
When Paul gets up to speak briefly about his close friend, the congregation objects, stopping him.
To Paul’s disgust, Kieran, Shelly’s brother, is the one generating the commotion.
Paul lashes out at Kieran and chastises him for neglecting to care for his sister while she was dying after learning how Shelly’s family had abandoned her.
Paul’s blunt candor has infuriated Kieran, and soon the two are fighting viciously.
Billy, however, is struck in the face by Paul as he intervenes to break up the fight.
