In order to celebrate the amazing, strong women on our favorite soap operas as we learn more about them and who inspires them, General Hospital star Eden McCoy is launching a new feature on Soap Hub. Additionally, view a stunning photo gallery.

Celebrating Eden McCoy

Did you watch soap operas as a child? Who was your favorite fictional (or soap opera) heroine?

Although I didn’t watch soaps growing up, my mother told me how much she loved the show when she was younger when I was cast as Josslyn Jacks. She continues to be a huge fan and adored the role of Bobbie Spencer in addition to having major crushes on Jax (Ingo Rademacher) and Sonny (Maurice Benard). Nobody should be surprised when I say that from the first moment we met, Jackie [Zeman] became my idol. She was an icon in every sense of the word, and getting to know her as a woman, actress, mother, and grandmother will be one of the greatest gifts of my life. One of my all-time favorite stories is the tragic tale of BJ’s heart transplant, and she told it as flawlessly as she did everything else. I have to say that Jackie and Bobbie Spencer are among my favorite soap opera heroines.

2.) Was there a character on soaps (or in other literature) that you loved to hate?

Chloe Lanier’s portrayal of the villainous Nelle was so masterful that I loved to despise her. And it’s the same with my close friend Avery [Kristen] Pohl, who plays my vile nemesis Esme as my I love to hate character brilliantly. Ava Jerome and Nina Reeves are currently the hardest characters for me to be mean to when I’m playing Joss because I could not possibly love Maura [West] and Cynthia [Watros] more. I have never met two more generous people than these two. I always find the “villains” to be so fascinating, and you can only “hate” these strong women because they are so good at what they do and give excellent performances.

3.) What real-life historical female figure do you admire?

I’ve always been drawn to Jane Goodall’s special relationship with the environment and her dedication to animals, which has motivated countless people to preserve and defend their fellow members of the planet. Her unwavering commitment over a lifetime is amazing. The amount of love she has in her heart astounds me.

Princess Diana is another person whose humanity toward AIDS victims has forever inspired and moved me, despite the tragically premature end of her life. The way she physically held and touched so many hurting kids. You just can’t fake the way she truly felt love and compassion; you could tell it was bigger than her.

4.) What qualities do you admire about your character?

Josslyn inspires me because she never holds back when it comes to speaking her mind and because her heart is always in the right place (even if her delivery occasionally falls short). Josslyn is extremely motivated; she throws herself into anything she cares about, whether it be relationships, family, or her studies. She is a fiercely independent woman who never succumbs to weakness or allows anyone to bring her down, which makes her a fun character to play.

5.) Did you have a childhood crush?

Oh my gosh, I had a lot.I have vivid memories of Brad Pitt in Meet Joe Black. Additionally in Iron Man is Robert Downey Jr. Although I had several romantic encounters with Jim Carrey, Harrison Ford was and continues to be my all-time favorite celebrity crush. He always manages to capture my attention with his quiet masculinity, wit, and rugged good looks.

6.) What role models are out there today for young women to admire?

There are role models everywhere, and I don’t think one needs to have made a name for themselves to be one. We are constantly surrounded by unsung female heroes, and I count myself incredibly fortunate to know women of all ages and socioeconomic backgrounds who support one another, have good intentions, are clear about what they want, and are unwavering in their convictions. Anyone who is sincere, raises your vibration, and motivates you to develop and strengthen your habits is, in my opinion, a fantastic role model.

7.) If you could work with any actor (from any genre) on your show, who would it be?

I just finished reading Brian Cox’s autobiography, and I would adore to collaborate with him. He came to my attention because I’m a huge Succession fan, and I’ve learned a lot from his career, including the roles, successes, and failures he’s experienced. He has really done it all, from theater to film, and even in his advanced years, he is still developing as an actor.
