Fans finally received what they had been waiting for when Gladys was exposed and made to pay for her crimes. Unfortunately, this also means that Bonnie Burroughs, who played her in GENERAL HOSPITAL, has left the show.
Even though stealing Sasha’s money to pay off her gambling debts was wrong, Gladys and Dr. Montague’s plan to send her to Ferncliff made redemption increasingly improbable. And Burroughs could see what her cunning alter ego’s fate was.
So when GH executive producer Frank Valentini told her that her final episode was approaching, she wasn’t entirely shocked. Burroughs acknowledged in the most recent issue of Soap Opera Digest, “I’m glad I did get that heads-up, because if I hadn’t,
Gladys Corbin was first introduced in July 2019 and was portrayed at that time by actress Mel Harris. However, Burroughs had assumed the role when the character returned to the screen in September of that year, and he continued to do so throughout the years all the way up until the episode that aired on October 5, 2023.
Gladys ought to consider herself fortunate that she wasn’t sentenced to prison for her crimes, or worse, but was simply driven out of town! Sonny did caution her, however, that if she didn’t keep her nose clean once she returned to Bridgeport, he would make sure she went on another, longer trip.
So, who knows if Gladys will pay attention or if she’ll ever try returning to Port Charles? Maybe to demonstrate how she has changed? Everything is possible in soap operas!
