A Critic’s Review Of General Hospital: Tying Up Loose Ends and Murder

Every fan of General Hospital, including Soap Hub, has an opinion of their own. We watched the good, the bad, and everything in between for five days, and now we present to you a helpful summary and lighthearted analysis of the GH week that was.

General Hospital: The Critic’s POV

Alright, so my bingo card didn’t include Austin (Roger Howarth) trying to kill Mason (Nathanyael Grey) outright. If only he had considered doing that earlier.

I also like how the interim writers resolved the unresolved matter of Tajh Bellow’s (TJ) long-ago kidnapping by designating Mason as his principal abductor in retrospect. Like when Tracy (Jane Elliot) tells Lois (Rena Sofer) that she intends to transfer Deception to Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton), I adore it when plot points genuinely make sense.

I’ll be damned, though, if it hasn’t been tastefully wrapped up with a cute little bow. I’ve been scratching my head for weeks trying to figure out why Ms. Quartermaine was so eager to wrest control of the company away from Lucy, especially once she got her hands on her real prize, which was Lucy’s 1% stake in ELQ (another brilliant swerve by the soap’s new stewards).

Further GH Musings

  • When does Selena Wu (Lydia Look) become real and stop being nice? It’s her moment to take the initiative, shine, and give Sonny (Maurice Benard) a warning. Now this is her city!
  • Cody’s (Josh Kelly) parentage is one plot point that I hope gets resolved by the end of the year. It hurts to watch him cry and complain that he is “not good enough” to be Mac’s (John J. York) son at this point in time, as if Mac doesn’t have a past that he is ashamed of.

What passes for a plot involving Felicia (Kristina Wagner) is equally irritating. I realize I’ve been pleading with TPTB to bring General Hospital back to its medical roots, but is anyone really interested in watching an ex-adventuress navigate the difficulties of patient advocacy when we won’t be seeing her, you know, actually interacting with patients?

  • With Cyrus (Jeff Kober) making the rounds and the threats against him growing, I’m starting to smell a whodunit. Although losing the captivating Daytime Emmy winner Kober would be unfortunate, it would make for an incredible November sweepstakes, with an extremely long list of potential suspects. Austin, Laura (Genie Francis), Ava (Maura), Curtis (Donnell Turner), Trina (Tabyana Ali), and Portia (Brook Kerr).
  • Although I find it annoying that Michael (Chad Duell) uses blackmail to coerce Nina (Cynthia Watros), I admire the authors for choosing a less-traveled path. Anything that delays the inevitable public criticism of Nina, which I have expressed strong feelings about, is greatly appreciated.
