What Happened to Maxie on GENERAL HOSPITAL

Because Maxie Jones is such a beloved legacy character on GENERAL HOSPITAL, fans are upset whenever the character is absent from the program for any length of time. Maxie was portrayed by a number of young performers until Robyn Richards was chosen in 1993. Maxie is the daughter of well-known supercouple Frisco Jones and Felicia Jones. Kirsten Storms replaced her after she left in 2004 and made her debut as Maxie in May 2005. But for over a year, Storms was temporarily replaced by Jen Lilley when she was on a medical leave in 2011.Later, in 2016, when Storms needed more time off, Molly Burnett filled in as Maxie for a month. In order to ensure that Maxie’s narrative can continue, Storms signed a new contract with GH after having to miss a few days of work due to the flu in 2018. (However, Nicole Paggi temporarily replaced her in December 2023, leading to another temporary recast.)

Maxie was given the name Maximilian Jones in honor of her maternal great-grandparents, Mariah and Maximilian Ramirez. Maxie was diagnosed with Kawasaki illness at a young age and underwent a heart transplant from her cousin B.J. Jones. Maxie’s initial romantic interest as a teenager was Lucky Spencer, but she lost her virginity to Kyle Ratcliffe after he videotaped it and shared it online!

After Jesse Beaudry, an undercover police officer, was killed while performing his job, Maxie’s relationship came to an end, and she began to indulge in excessive partying. Despite Lucky’s marriage to Liz at the time, they shared a bed together as she looked to him for solace. She also started dating Cooper Barrett, but she seduced his Army buddy Logan Hayes as payback because she thought he was starting to fall for Lulu.

Following their reunion, Cooper went on the run since he was thought to be involved in Georgie Jones’s murder. Maxie was adamant that Cooper was innocent despite the fact that he was found dead hanging in his bed, so she collaborated with Damian Spinelli to establish Diego Alcazar as the true murderer. In the end, Maxie and Lulu Spencer moved in together after changing from bitter rivals to the closest of friends.

Maxie made an effort to keep Spinelli a friend, but they eventually gave in to their romantic affections for one another. She said yes to his proposal, but he decided to have a “not” wedding instead after realizing how anxious she was about getting married. Regretfully, Maxie’s romance with Spinelli was ruined when she had an affair with the artist Robert “Franco” Frank. In an attempt to encourage Spinelli to advocate for her return, she tried flirting with Dr. Matt Hunter, but the strategy backfired when he ended their relationship!

However, once Matt was thought to have killed Lisa Niles, Maxie and Matt’s relationship collapsed. In an attempt to avoid testifying against him, she married him; nonetheless, Matt confessed after remembering his transgression. Offering to be Dante and Lulu’s surrogate, Maxie attempted to turn her life around, but it turned out the baby she was carrying was actually Spinelli’s from a devastated one-night affair! She first gave Dante and Lulu custody of the child, but as the truth was revealed and a custody dispute arose, the judge gave Spinelli custody of the infant daughter. Georgie relocated to Portland with Spinelli and Ellie, and they decided to name the baby after Maxie’s sister.

After taking a mental vacation from Port Charles, Maxie returned with Levi Dunkleman as her new beau. However, she couldn’t help but be pulled to her attractive subletter, Nathan West. After Maxie ditched Levi and the Aztec gems that belonged to her mother Felicia Jones, it became clear that Levi was actually a scammer. Eventually, she and Nathan announced their relationship publicly, and on New Year’s Day of 2017, they were married.

Nathan was happy for Maxie to return in May, but it turned out that she had prolonged her vacation when she went for Portland for business a few months after the wedding. She was worried to learn that her husband had been spending a lot of time with nurse Amy Driscoll when she finally went back to him. She had nothing to be jealous about, thankfully, because they were merely working on the advice book Ask Man Landers. Maxie told Nathan that he was going to be a father around Thanksgiving, but just after the new year in 2018, Cesar Faison shot and killed Nathan, leaving her devastated and by herself.

Maxie found support from Peter August, who also delivered her baby James on the side of the road when they were unable to reach the hospital in time. However, Maxie was devastated once more to learn that Peter is actually Nathan’s brother, Henrik Faison, and she resolved to exact revenge on him for his betrayal.

But after her narrative caused Nathan’s death and Cesar to resurface, Maxie was able to mend her friendship with Lulu, but she was also pulled back to Peter. After a protracted period of trying to hide their emotions, the two finally started dating seriously. Furthermore, Maxie discovered she was expecting his child and was arranging their wedding while Peter was trying to hide his previous terrible crimes! Maxie was warned by others about Peter, but she refused to listen.

When Lulu was taken to a clinic in a coma to recuperate after being on the verge of death in an explosion at the Floating Rib, Maxie was devastated. Thus, she was unavailable to serve as Maxie’s maid of honor. The wedding never really transpired because Peter’s crimes were eventually revealed and Obrecht intervened. Terrified, Maxie decided she had had enough of Peter and joined up with his sister Britt Westbourne to deceive him into believing she had miscarried in order to keep him away from her child. She then decided to give Brook Lynn Ashton her daughter.who was pretending to be pregnant. Even then, the plan was hampered when Peter fired the actual nurse Chloe Jennings Maxie intended to employ and replaced her with a nurse who worked for him!

After escaping from the nasty nurse at a remote cabin, Maxie went into labor and gave birth to Louise with the assistance of Dr. Austin Holt, a hiker in the region. After Maxie tricked Nurse Jennings into falling into a trap and calling Brook Lynn to come rescue “her” infant, Nurse Jennings was knocked out and attempted to take the baby. Later, when Maxie was found dead and Peter had vanished from the hospital, she claimed that the nurse had taken her baby for Peter. Maxie realized she needed to leave Port Charles to avoid ruining her baby swap lie after realizing she was spending too much time at the Quartermaines with her daughter.

On her way back to Port Charles, Maxie stopped in Nixon Falls to visit Nina and was later horrified when Nina warned that Peter was on her trail. When Gladys Corbin overheard Maxie and Brook Lynn talking about Bailey, they raced to keep her quiet. But after Harrison Chase discovered the truth and Brook Lynn changed her lie to make him the babydaddy, Maxie warned they’d have to keep up the charade until Peter was behind bars for good. Unfortunately, although Peter was poisoned behind bars, he survived and while being transported from the hospital to Pentonville, the villain managed to escape and kidnapped Louise! While trying to keep Austin from figuring out the truth, she kissed him, but when she found out that he was indirectly responsible for helping Victor Cassadine figure out who Bailey really was, she turned her back on the doc.

With Louise missing, Maxie finally confessed her scheme to everyone and privately met with Peter on the docks where he urged her to come away with him and Louise to be a family. She managed to convince him to leave Louise behind and left town with the villain by herself! While in Switzerland, Maxie managed to secretly leave a message for Anna Devane which helped everyone track them down. After Maxie gave Peter the slip, she ran into Felicia, and in the ensuing battle, Felicia gained the upper hand and struck him with a tire iron, killing him.

Finally reunited with her daughter, Maxie honored Brook Lynn’s sacrifice by renaming the child Bailey Louise. Maxie told Austin she was ready to start a relationship with him, but soon became convinced the doctor was hiding something and she ultimately called it quits with him. She was also stunned when she found out that newcomer Cody Bell could be Mac’s son.

Maxie was astonished to discover that Lucy was actually alive—she was simply hiding—when she teamed up with Bobbie Spencer to organize the 2023 Nurses Ball after believing Lucy had passed away. Then she tried to take over the ball remotely, which drove Maxie crazy. Additionally, Maxie teamed up with Sasha and Brook Lynn to assist with organizing Michael and Willow’s wedding day. Maxie convinced Sasha to return and promote the Deceptor despite the negative experience from the previous appearance of Deception on Home & Heart, and things went considerably more smoothly this time.

When Brook Lynn confessed to downloading a file on the Deceptor, she claimed it was for company business, but when Tracy Quartermaine took them to court, Maxie and Lucy realized she’d stolen the confidential information for her grandmother. Maxie fired Brook Lynn and found herself in dire financial straits but refused Felicia’s offer to help her out with the bills and the rent on her new house (Dante agreed to lease Maxie his and Lulu’s old house so she’d have more room for her and the kids).

Tracy had given Brook Lynn control of Deception, but learning of Maxie’s money troubles, Brook Lynn was determined to find a way to get the company away from Tracy and back into Maxie’s hands. When Spinelli showed up on Christmas Eve needing a place to live while his apartment was under repair, Maxie agreed to let him stay and accept rent, not realizing it was a scheme he and Felicia had cooked up. Living together again brought the couple closer together and they confessed they’d fallen back in love with each other. But after Spinelli came clean about helping with the rent, Maxie felt betrayed and angry.

Maxie forgave Cody and Sasha for pushing them back together, and they asked her to forgive Spinelli as well. She proceeded to speak with him, but there was a little pause while they dealt with Jason’s unexpected resurrection. However, after another kiss, everything appeared to be better. Not so much at work, though, since Blaze was quickly signed to a deal to take Sasha’s position as the face of Deception once she resigned!
