After 50 years on the Cobbles, actress Helen Worth of Coronation Street recently announced her departure from the ITV soap opera.

Following her revelation about leaving Coronation Street, Helen Worth’s future plans have been hinted at. The 73-year-old actress said that she will be leaving the Cobbles after fifty years of service by resigning from her position as Gail Platt at the end of this year.

In response to reports of Helen’s impending departure, PR specialist Jake Holyoak exclusively discussed Helen’s options with Express.co.uk.

“Perhaps Helen could host her own lifestyle show, giving gardening advice or creating recipes based on her character’s favorite Betty’s Hot Pot,” he continued. It all comes down to surprising her admirers and demonstrating her range.”

In a significant plot point for the Platt family, viewers will witness Helen say goodbye to Weatherfield fifty years after she first set foot on the cobblestones.

“This year felt like the perfect time to leave the show after celebrating 50 years in the most wonderful job on the most wonderful street in the world,” Helen said, announcing her impending departure.

“I met with the producers at the beginning of the year and made the decision; they were really understanding and nice.

“I have been truly blessed to work with fantastic actors, directors, and a brilliant crew, and to be given the most incredible scripts week in and week out,” she continued. The last fifty years have gone fairly quickly, and I don’t think it really hit me that I’m leaving.”

July 1974 saw Helen appear for the first time as Gail. She has played a pivotal role in several of the most iconic plots, including her tragic marriage to Richard Hillman (Brian Capron) and her arrest for the murder of Joe McIntrye (Reece Dinsdale).

Next month, the beloved soap star will start recording her farewell story; the poignant moments will premiere towards the end of the year.
