Emmerdale’s Charity Dingle terrified as abusive Tom reaches ‘another level of control’

Exclusive: Charity Dingle is able to “smell a rat” as Tom King presses his way closer and closer to Belle Dingle, his wife in Emmerdale.

Ever since they were married on Valentine’s Day in February, Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor Draper) has been under the constant control of Emmerdale’s Tom King (James Chase).

At times in their relationship, the cunning veterinarian has even physically abused Belle in an effort to prevent her from becoming independent. She was recently fired behind his back because she was unable to handle raising a child with her abuser.

Nobody in the village appears to be aware of what is happening behind the scenes with the Emmerdale couple at this point.

But Charity Dingle’s Emma Atkins has hinted that her character will soon discover what Belle is going through in upcoming scenes.

Emma revealed that there is a scene in the village where Charity runs into Belle and Tom face-to-face while speaking with Express.co.uk and other media at a recent press event.

“There’s a standoff and Belle runs off crying and Charity’s first instincts are to run after her,” Emma explained.

“But Tom comes up in the wheelchair [he is using] and says, ‘Stop’ and ‘You leave Belle to me.'”

She continued: “He just shuts her down right there in the street and she’s just dumbfounded. I think she’s like, ‘Holy moly this is another level of control and masking, you know.'”

When asked if the character has been suspicious of Tom before, Emma said: “No but I think she has always found him to be a bit squeaky clean – a bit annoying and a bit smarmy.

“She’s just not had the best opinion of him, but of course, he ticks all the boxes, doesn’t he?”

Emma added: “On the outside world, everybody thinks he’s caring. He’s earning a wage and he’s the most decent human being Belle’s met so far.

“I think he’s putting on the most amazing show and she starts to smell a rat.”

Is there any way Charity can assist Belle in escaping the terrible circumstance she’s found herself in?

Although the character has never been fortunate in love, Tom’s abuse has brought her to her lowest point, leaving her feeling as though she has no one to confide in.
