Coronation Street’s Ken Barlow has been in Weatherfield since 1960 and has been married four times – and fans think they know who he’ll shack up with next
Coronation Street icon Ken Barlow is rumoured to be embarking on a surprising new love affair with a fellow resident, much to the dismay of fans.
Ken, known for having marched down the aisle four times and being father to four children, has been involved in numerous significant plotlines over the years.
However, fans are already conjecturing about Ken’s upcoming, less than well-liked romantic relationship. Ken just suffered a scary fall that made him need special care.
For the Barlow family, however, the cost of hiring a professional caregiver was prohibitive.
In response, they employed Cassie Plummer (played by Claire Sweeney), even though she didn’t have any formal qualifications. However, she did share that she had prior experience taking care of a lover.
After a deep talk with Cassie, Ken changed his mind from his initial clashing position, saying he was fine with her helping and that he would personally pay for her salary.
Fans anticipate a blossoming romance between Cassie and Ken as she settles into her new role as his caregiver. According to the Daily Star, one startled fan on X, the former Twitter, shared their theory: “I think there is going to be a “Nurse Nightingale Syndrome” storyline for Ken and Cassie.”
Fans conjecture that even though Cassie is only for his money, viewers might witness Ken fall in love with her. One fan says, “Where the patient becomes attracted to the carer.” Although Cassie is just interested in getting his money, Ken might end up falling in love with Steve.”
According to a different admirer, romance between Ken and Cassie is developing. They commented, “Romance is in the air for Ken and Cassie.” He’s going to take her to Bistro shortly.”
Another admirer, however, has cautioned Cassie about falling for Ken’s seductive ways, saying, “Watch yourself Cassie – Ken taking you out to lunch, that’s how it starts, ask any of his previous conquests.”
A viewer even speculated that Ken and Cassie would get married during the holidays, saying: “Christmas wedding for Ken and Cassie.” A match forged in heaven.
On a Coronation Street site, a fan commented, “I’m kind of enjoying Cassie around ken and Steve but is a love triangle going to form as Ken is a lothario,” adding to the ongoing concern.
Some fans, however, are not pleased with the plot; one commented, “If Cassie and Ken do become a thing, I’m not watching.”
Another concurred, saying: “Ugggh I cannot take to Cassie and seeing so much more of her now as love interest for Steve and carer for Ken is making me feel a bit nauseous but I take comfort in the knowledge that none of these relationships last long.”
