Amy appears to be the next victim of The Institute’s serious hold over Corrie’s Leanne, and supporters are confident that a legend will return to save her.
A beloved character from Corrie is returning to the show, and fans believe she will defeat the eerie Institute.
Viewers were first introduced to the enigmatic “self-improvement group” The Institute earlier this year. Emhrys Cooper’s Rowan Cunliffe led the cult, and it attracted the attention of Cobbles resident Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson).
And she joined quickly, much to the dismay of her fiancé Nick Tilsley (Ben Price), as well as her sister Toyah Habeeb (Georgia Taylor), who had expressed similar worries about Leanne.
To their dismay, Leanne—who has since brought Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney) to the group—is under the control of the Institute.
This week on the soap opera, Amy watches a video of The Institute and is impressed. So much so that previews for the following episode indicate she is actually drawn in by the cult.
Leanne is thrilled to see Amy among the guests as she and Toyah arrive at the Chariot Square Hotel for a new recruits session on Monday, July 8.
However, supporters believe that Tracy Barlow, a specific someone, is returning to the cobbles to “bring The Institute down.” As viewers will remember, earlier this year, Kate Ford, who played the soap legend, bid goodbye to the show.
In order to flee to Spain with her new partner Tommy Orpington for his new work, Tracy ultimately had to leave her daughter Amy behind. However, in June, sources told The Mirror that Tracy would be returning shortly—but only for a week—before making her official comeback later in the year.
Fans now believe Tracy is returning to rescue Amy from the cult. It has been announced that Kate Ford (Tracy) will be returning to Weatherfield sometime next month, a user commented on a Corrie Reddit thread.
“My guess is she will be back not just to see Steve or her new boyfriend Tommy O, but her daughter Amy will be in a sticky situation as she gets involved with the Institute. Please god no!”
Someone else added: “Hope Tracy ends the Institute.” A third penned: “That’s what I’m hoping for.” Another person wrote: “I think Ken or Steve will raise the alarm regarding Amy giving Deirdre money away and that’s what brings Tracy back.”
