Exclusive: Almost two decades after departing from ITV’s Coronation Street, actress Sally Lindsay shared details about her life.
The most well-known role for actress Sally Lindsay was Shelley Unwin in Coronation Street from 2001 until 2006. The 51-year-old actress addressed problems she has in the entertainment industry and expressed her opinion on whether she will ever grace the Rovers Return with her appearance again, over 20 years after leaving the ITV serial opera.

She clarified that getting older might be a factor that increases the difficulty of her and other actors’ employment, particularly for women. At the 2024 Sedulo Colour Ball at The Hilton in Manchester, actress Sally made the following exclusive statement to Express.co.uk: “I think the industry is nearly impossible at the moment, for men and women, but especially for women.”

“If you get over the age of 45 to 50, then I think it is much more difficult on a global scale. Not so much in England, because we like our stars, but I do think that if you’re not on a certain list then it is extremely difficult.”

The ITV soap star continued: “At the moment, the industry is so difficult. Budgets and commissioning are being slashed all of the time.

We’re going through a difficult situation right now. It’s a challenging moment for the industry, but don’t get me wrong—we’re not in the dark.”

Sally stated, “I have no need to return,” when asked if she would ever go back to Corrie. I currently own my own business and television show. Though I would never say never, I would logically never return.”

She went on, “It was amazing, I really enjoyed it.” However, that was a very long time ago. After then, there were 20 years of effort. It constituted a very tiny yet beautiful portion of my life.”

In her portrayal of Shelley, Sally was legendary. Her bigamous marriage to Peter Barlow and her domineering and violent romance with Charlie Stubbs, who abandoned her while she was pregnant, were two of her most well-known tales.

In order to pursue her career as a bartender, she moved from Weatherfield to the Lake District and took a position running a small country inn.

“I think Shelley has been through so much as a character during my time here, and I am really looking forward to working on different projects,” Sally stated as she was leaving.

“I have and always will have a massive affection for Coronation Street, and I want to thank all the cast, production team and writers for everything that has happened for me and my character.”
