Emmerdale faces criticism for “copying” the new plot of a rival soap drama as viewers air their complaints.

One of Emmerdale’s most recent plotlines has viewers unhappy.

When Paula Lane’s character Ella Forster made her premiere earlier this year, it was evident that she was concealing a significant secret. And in true soap opera tradition, her big secret was eventually made public.

Ella killed her best friend when she was eleven years old, and she was imprisoned for the crime. Ella, formerly known as Ruth, was set free and has since traveled the nation for the remainder of her life.

Ella planned to settle down after arriving at the Dales in January, especially after developing romantic feelings for GP Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson).

But once his own daughter Leanna (Mimi Slinger) was killed, Liam couldn’t handle the truth and ended things when he learned she was killing children.

Ella left the community as a result back in June, but she just made a stunning return following a vehicle accident.

To Liam’s dismay, Ella chose to return to the village after being persuaded by friend Mandy Dingle (Lisa Riley). In yet another shocking turn of events, Ella told Mandy that she is carrying Liam’s child.

However, Ella suffered a devastating blow on Tuesday, July 30, when it was determined that she wasn’t genuinely pregnant. Ella was informed in tearful circumstances that she had an embryonic pregnancy, sometimes referred to as a silent miscarriage or blighted ovum.

But once Ella dropped her bombshell, viewers couldn’t help but notice that rival soap operas Corrie and EastEnders were running parallel storylines.

Watchers will remember that on ITV’s Coronation Street, Toyah (Georgia Taylor) mistook her pregnancy for cancer. Meanwhile, Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy), in Walford, is trying to conceive and was just informed that she has a blighted ovum.

Fans expressed their dissatisfaction with the same plots on social media. Someone on X remarked, “Are these soap opera authors incapable of coming up with any unique ideas?

“First Sonia in #Eastenders has a blighted ovum. Now Ella in #Emmerdale has had a blighted ovum,” they added. A second wrote: “Ella like Toyah on #corrie she thought she was prego as well.”

While over on a Reddit thread, a third penned: “Character is pregnant but when they go to hospital there is no baby, seems a familiar storyline for some reason Toyah Corrie.”
