Calum Lill has quit his role as Joel Deering in Coronation Street with the villain set to make a dramatic exit from Weatherfield as his dark secret is exposed to all

Calum Lill, known for his role as Joel Deering in Coronation Street, is reportedly set to exit the soap. The former Hollyoaks actor joined the ITV show last year as a duty solicitor and love interest for Dee-Dee Bailey (played by Channique Sterling-Brown).

Despite making a good impression on the fan favourite, viewers were immediately suspicious of him. It was later revealed that he was behind Lauren Bolton’s disappearance, tormenting the cash-strapped teen and fathering her newborn son.

The storyline will culminate in Joel’s departure from Weatherfield, confirming the actor’s decision to leave the long-running show. “Calum has made a huge impact as Joel over the last year but he always knew it would be for a fixed ter,.” an insider told The Sun.

“He’s been great playing Joel but all good soap villains must get their comeuppance and Joel’s is coming very soon.”

While his departure may spell heartbreak for Dee-Dee, who is growing suspicious of him, Calum already has plans post-exit.

“He’s already landed his first job after the show and so he’ll be finished in time to start rehearsals for that. But on-screen Joel has no idea what’s coming for him as his dark secrets start to be exposed,” the source added.

Calum is set to tread the boards at Bournemouth’s Pavilion Theatre, taking on another villainous role.

He will be playing Fleshcreep in the pantomime production of Jack and the Beanstalk from December 7, 2024, to January 5, 2025.

Recent scenes from Coronation Street have shown Joel plotting against Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin), who has been blackmailing him over his appalling behaviour with young girls.

However, he’s treading on dangerous ground as he discovers she is the daughter of DS Lisa Swain, who has been trying to bring him down following Lauren Bolton’s disappearance.

A fan theory has emerged suggesting that Joel could be connected to another Weatherfield villain, Mason Radcliffe, who is attempting to reform after tormenting Liam Connor.

The question remains: is Joel Deering’s time on the show coming to an end?
