In later scenes, Georgia Taylor’s character Toyah Battersby will be shocked to learn that another Coronation Street resident is aware of her relationship with Nick Tilsley (Ben Price).
Nick and Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson), Toyah’s sister, are engaged, but in the last six months, they have become quite close.
They began to bond when Leanne was drawn into the clutches of sinister cult The Institute, and started to distance herself from her family.
With no one else to confide in, Toyah and Nick started to share their concerns with each other, with their conversations soon turning much more personal.
It didn’t take long for one thing to lead to another, and soon Nick and Toyah shared a kiss. Following that, they gave into temptation and ended up sleeping together.
Unfortunately, they were soon caught out by The Institute’s Rowan Cunliffe (Emrhys Cooper), who managed to get photos of them sharing a passionate moment.
Since then, he has been blackmailing Nick into investing into The Institute’s new resource centre, in exchange for him keeping the secret affair from Leanne.
However, it isn’t just Rowan that knows about the affair.
When Toyah had a positive pregnancy test last month, Nick confided in brother David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) that he was the father, revealing their affair in the process.
It later transpired that Toyah’s test had been a false positive, and she actually had ovarian cancer.
In the weeks since, it has been Nick that has supported her at her appointments, after Leanne announced that she was ’emotionally disconnecting’ from her sister’s ordeal.
However, when Toyah suffered complications during her recent operation, Leanne promised never to let her down again, before apologising to Nick for her selfishness.
This left Nick feeling horribly guilty about his affair, and he later confided in David that he’d come to a decision over who he wanted to be with.
In upcoming scenes, Toyah comes to the horrifying realisation that Nick has told David everything.
Nick is quick to apologise, and promises to keep his distance – but will he manage it?
