Coronation Street will celebrate its 65th anniversary in 2025 and fans have already started predicting how the ITV soap will mark the huge milestone

Next year’s 65th anniversary for Coronation Street has already caught the attention of fans, eagerly guessing how show bosses will mark this monumental occasion for the famous ITV soap.

Faithful viewers are well aware that the producers never shy away from dramatic celebrations. Recalling the 2020s 60th anniversary storylines, they witnessed the pivotal battle against Ray Crosbys destructive plans and Yasmeen Metcalfes harrowing trial over her attempt to kill Geoff Metcalfe.

Notably missing was a live episode, an established tradition since the 40th Anniversary Live Special in 2000, which was bypassed for the first time in two decades during the last major anniversary.

While details about the 65th anniversary festivities remain under wraps, that hasn’t stopped fervent Corrie enthusiasts from speculating plotlines as the beloved show approaches this landmark celebration.

Adding fuel to speculation is the memory of the iconic live episode that marked the show’s 50th anniversary in December 2010, which saw a devastating tram crash leading to the demise of characters like Ashley Peacock (Steven Arnold), Molly Dobbs (Vicky Binns), plus the loss of a taxi driver.

Spurring on predictions, one Reddit user suggests producers might orchestrate a similar catastrophe with a tram accident to “kill off” significant characters, ringing in another unforgettable Coronation Street milestone.

Corrie fans have been airing their wild speculations and desires for the soap’s 65th anniversary, with one fan suggesting on a social media post: “Another tram crash in multiple directions that kills off most of the cast.”

Meanwhile, another chimed in with a grim wish: “A good bus crash on a community trip to the lakes – with fatal consequences this time for a number of cast members.”

In an unexpected twist, there’s chatter about a possible return of the notorious Pat Phelan, despite his dramatic exit in 2018. Followers of the show are buzzing with theories that he could re-emerge amidst the current Institute group plot, where Rowan Cunliffe (portrayed by Emrhys Cooper) has already lured Leanne Battersby into joining and investing a hefty £40,000.

One Reddit user speculated: “The whole street is deep rooted within the cult, with Rowan [Cunliffe] acting as supreme leader at level 379. Until a behemoth of a shadow appears at the end of the street. It CAN’T be, but IT IS. It’s Pat Phelan, he’s back.”

Adding a touch of warmth to the speculative frenzy, another Corrie aficionado proposed that a Weatherfield local might hit the jackpot in the Lottery, leading to a feel-good narrative where the winner secretly aids neighbours. A Reddit enthusiast shared: “I would love an ‘At Home With The Braithwaites’ storyline. Someone on the street wins millions in the lottery and doesn’t tell anyone. They set up a business and/or a charity, anonymously help out friends and family. Something that touches everyone on the street and lasts for months.”

Viewers will have to stay tuned to see if any of these predictions come true when the soap celebrates its major anniversary in December 2025.
