Emmerdale viewers have threatened to ‘stop watching’ the ITV soap for good, as they demanded soap bosses to make a big change

Emmerdale viewers have been left with the same plea for the show’s producers.

The ITV soap, a mainstay on television since 1972, has built up a dedicated fan base. However, it seems that recent plotlines have left some fans seething at their screens.

The soap has certainly not lacked drama in recent times. Earlier this year, it launched a distressing abuse storyline involving Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Draper) and Tom King (James Chase).

After recognising his true nature, she ended their marriage and recently reported him to the police.

Despite Tom showing no signs of releasing her, Belle has kept quiet about the violence and abuse she suffered at his hands. The villain even stooped so low as to seemingly kill her dog Piper, leaving Belle heartbroken, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Moreover, soap icon Moira Dingle (Natalie J. Robb) has caused concern among fans in recent weeks due to her behaviour.

In addition to clashing with husband Cain (Jeff Hordley) and acting out of character, Moira has resumed drinking after overcoming substance abuse three years ago.

Earlier this week, Emmerdale viewers were left in shock as Moira suffered a seizure while out in the barn – sparking fears she could have a brain tumour. Yet, some fans of the show have expressed their dissatisfaction with the continuous “doom and gloom” storylines

Flocking to social media, disgruntled viewers threatened to “turn off” if the soap doesn’t inject some “happy and funniness” into its narrative. On an Emmerdale Facebook fan page, one viewer commented: “More health issues and sadness it’s depressing.”

Another viewer remarked: “Currently sick of it. Yes I know I can turn off. Might have to.” A third wrote: “Repeatedly sad doom and gloom absolutely nothing pleasant or nice or happy in any story what so ever get a grip writers.”

One more added their voice, saying: “If they carry on with these dark and depressing storylines I’m going to stop watching all together.” And a fifth pleaded: “Omg can we get some happy, cheery and funny storylines, it’s so depressing now.”
