Andy Whyment said “it’s been great”

Coronation Street fans have said “it won’t be the same” after Kirk Sutherland actor Andy Whyment said an emotional goodbye on social media. Andy, 43, has played the factory packer and delivery driver on the long-running ITV soap since 2000.

During that time his character has been at the centre of some of the show’s most dramatic storylines. He had a rollercoaster relationship with Fiz Brown, who ultimately dumped him when he popped the question, before later finding love with Beth Tinker.

But their relationship sadly came to an end this week when Beth left Weatherfield. Unbeknown to Kirk, Beth was being blackmailed by Kit Green and it was either leave the fictional town for good, or risk her son Craig Tinker’s police career coming to a disastrous end.

To add to Kirk’s pain, the news of Beth’s departure came as he offered to marry her for a second time in the Rovers Return. Beth lied and told Kirk she has a new job in Norwich, and when Kirk said he would relocate with her, Bethan turned him down, telling him he belongs on Coronation Street with his family and friends.

Having played on-screen partners for more than a decade, Andy was understandably emotional as Beth star Lisa George said her goodbyes. And in a social media post this weekend, he shared a photo of the two of them together and said: “Good bye Beth, it’s been great working with @lisageorgeactor over the last 13 years, I’ll miss you but I’m sure you’ll get plenty of work. All the best for the future”.

Fans have been quick to respond in the comments section of the Instagram post, as Ange said: “Aw no it will not be the same without you two together. Wishing you loads of luck xxx” and Shelley said: “Good luck Lisa, you will be missed”. Tracey said: “Best of luck Lisa. You made a great double act, sad to see you go”.

Laura said: “You two made a great couple in Corrie. Will miss this partnership.” Carole said: “Going to miss you working together. Look after Peanut, Kirk”.
