After spending two years away from the Square, Ruby Allen is returning to Walford in EastEnders, portrayed by Louisa Lytton. But why is Ruby Allen returning?

In EastEnders, Louisa Lytton is returning to the cunning character of Ruby Allen, bringing her back to Albert Square. With Ruby returning, there will be even more drama as Stacey Slater tries to hide her role in Keanu Taylor’s murder.

The executives of the BBC One soap opera have officially announced that Louisa will be spending more time on the set before the show’s 40th anniversary.

Although no exact date has been given for her return, Ruby, the daughter of crime boss Johnny Allen, is expected to cause havoc later this year for both Stacey and Martin Fowler, with whom she previously had a relationship.

Long-time fans of the London-based drama will recall that Ruby last appeared in Walford in November 2021 when she was sent to prison for her alleged involvement in a drug scheme. This was orchestrated by Jean Slater, who turned her into the authorities in retaliation for Stacey’s false imprisonment.

When Ruby left the show, she claimed to be pregnant with Martin’s child, but he dismissed her claims, believing she was lying about the pregnancy just as she had lied about Stacey harming her.

What will bring Ruby back to Walford remains to be seen. Speaking about her upcoming return to EastEnders, Louisa Lytton, who has been part of the cast since 2005, expressed her excitement about reprising her role, despite reports suggesting she was content with moving on.

“I am thrilled to have been asked back to the Square to revisit Ruby once more, and to shed some light on what the past three years have been like for her during her time away from Walford. I’ve always loved playing Ruby as there is never a dull moment and I cannot wait for everyone to see what Ruby has in store.”

Chris Clenshaw, EastEnders’ executive producer, chimed in: “I’m delighted to welcome Louisa Lytton back to the role of Ruby Allen. Ruby’s departure from Walford left many unanswered questions for Martin and Stacey, and her return is sure to unearth a whole heap of drama for her character and all those involved.”

But what does her comeback spell for everyone involved?

Also set for a soap return is stage legend Tracy-Ann Oberman, who’ll reemerge as Chrissie Watts for the first time since Chrissie’s jailing for Den Watts’ murder in 2005. Rumours suggest she will share a connection with newcomer Teddy.
