EastEnders boss Chris Clensaw has teased that fans might not have seen the last of evil Dean Wicks (Matt Di Angelo) despite his final scenes airing this week.
The character has been at the centre of the drama since returning to the BBC soap last year, after The Six framed him for the murder of Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters) to make him pay for raping Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) during his previous stint on the show a decade ago.
This week’s episodes saw his murder trial fall apart after he finally admitted to raping Linda, throwing her false testimony that she’d seen him dragging Keanu’s body into the café on Christmas night into doubt.
With a mistrial having been declared, Dean is still facing an uncertain future – but a post on EastEnders’ official Instagram account confirmed his last scenes had now aired.
‘Farewell to the marvellous Matt Di Angelo AKA devious Dean Wicks. From all the cast and crew at EastEnders… thank you, you’ll be missed!’ the post read.
It was accompanied by a video of Matt’s last day of filming, in which the cast and crew bid him farewell.
Executive producer Chris Clenshaw was also seen giving a speech that also hinted at Dean’s future.
He began: ‘I just wanted to say a huge thank you to Matt for giving us one of the most vile characters, one of the most hated characters in Britain and on British TV. Thank you for coming back and playing out this next chapter of Dean’s story.’
Chris then teased: ‘Even though I think Dean’s finally got his comeuppance, I have a strange feeling that this won’t be the last we ever see of Dean, or in fact you.
‘And thank you for being a joy to work with and for taking the character in such good spirit. We owe you a lot.’
Could Dean be set to return for a retrial? Or will the events of Thursday’s night’s episode see him eventually acquitted of Keanu’s murder?
The latest instalment saw Linda admit to killing Keanu to his horrified sister Bernie Taylor (Clair Norris), after failing to convince police of her guilt with her confession.
Bernie then learned the horror of the other women’s involvement in covering up the murder.
While The Six assumed Bernie would shop them to the police, her next move looks uncertain, as she was unable to tell her mother Karen Taylor (Lorraine Stanley) the truth about what she’d discovered during a later phone call.
