EastEnders’ Reiss Colwell has been covering up his wife Debbie’s murder but fans are convinced that he is hiding a much darker secret about his late wife.

EastEnders viewers are speculating a dark past for Reiss Colwell and his deceased spouse Debbie after recent episodes.

In the latest visit to Albert Square on Tuesday (July 30), which is available on iPlayer, the financially troubled accountant Reiss, portrayed by Johnny Freeman, was seen concealing the murder of Debbie (acted by Jenny Meier) in an attempt to mitigate his escalating financial woes.

However, when he encountered her parents Brenda and Hugh, played by Nichola McAuliffe and Michael Bertenshaw respectively, Reiss became anxious as they expressed doubts about their daughter’s abrupt demise.

Brenda pressed for answers on why Debbie’s health deteriorated so rapidly and questioned the identity of Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy), leading to Reiss panicking and introducing Sonia as his landlady.

The bereaved parents then visited Albert Square for tea, but Sonia was incensed by Reiss’s continued deceit, insisting their relationship had to stay hidden, reports the Daily Star.

Reiss tried to reassure Sonia by vowing to stop lying, but during a moment of comfort, Brenda walked into the kitchen and witnessed their intimate hug.

They admitted their romance to Debbie’s parents, with Reiss confessing that he hadn’t planned on falling for Sonia. He also lamented that his life had been “also been robbed” due to Debbie’s stroke and subsequent coma.

While Hugh showed understanding towards the couple, Brenda condemned Reiss for never truly loving Debbie, prompting Sonia to defend him by highlighting that Reiss was more present than her own parents, causing distress to the visiting couple.

Before they left, Hugh confronted Reiss about falling behind on care home fees, to which Reiss falsely assured he had everything handled.

As Reiss and Sonia celebrated Martin Fowler’s (James Bye) birthday, Brenda and Hugh popped into the cafe. Here, they overheard Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) and Teddy Mitchell (Roland Manookian) spilling the beans about Reiss’ questionable investment ventures.

The irate pair later cornered Reiss, accusing him of stealing Debbie’s money to fund IVF treatment, unveiling that they’d been regularly depositing money into her account for her care payments a fact unknown to Sonia.

Stunned by Reiss’ deceit, Sonia wanted to address the issue but pressed him to apologise to Brenda first.

Brenda, unrestrained, confronted Reiss with distrust in his entire persona and revealed: “Debbie got wise to you in the end, she used to phone me up and tell me about your annoying little ways.”

She also expressed: “She could hardly stand to be near you, it was only a matter of time before she packed up and left – tragic that she never got the chance.”

Brenda vowed to inform the police of the financial discrepancies, ominously hinting: “When they start digging into you, who knows what they’re going to turn up? “.

EastEnders fans were left in shock after Brenda’s words led them to accuse Reiss of causing Debbie’s coma. One viewer took to social media, posting: “Soooo Reiss put Debbie in the coma and was abusive? #EastEnders.”

Another fan declared: “Nah today’s ep confirmed it for me. I definitely think Reiss had something to do with Debbie being in a coma, like her mam said ‘what a shame she never got the chance to leave'”.

A third joined in, stating: “So now I think creep Reiss is the reason for Debbie’s coma in the first place #EastEnders.”

“Obsessed with these two! GO ON BRENDA TAKE DOWN EVIL REISS! RIP DEBBIE X “, another fan encouraged.
