CORONATION Street fans have hit out at the show once again as they lambasted the programme for airing stories with “no impact”.

The ITV soap has been under fire from long-term fans who have been left majorly underwhelmed by its recent content.

Stubborn criticism has been leveled at recent plots such as Abi Franklin’s AI porn scheme, Roy Cropper’s imprisonment for Lauren Bolton’s murder, and Toyah Battersby’s secret dead baby.

The choices made in the story have drawn criticism from viewers who feel that it does not accurately depict life in the North.

Now, a few viewers have even started calling the opera “meaningless” and harshly criticizing its most recent script.

One ardent fan of Coronation Street had a furious outburst against the show as a result.

The fan lashed out furiously on the internet, writing, “Everything is meaningless.”

“Events and stories don’t progress and don’t really affect any of the characters.

Before the current plots and subplots are partially or fully handled, the next huge crisis or issue appears out of nowhere, and everything is swiftly and conveniently forgotten.

“They can throw endless stories at any one character, but as you said, nothing ever moves forward, they may as well be frozen in time as there’s usually zero character development as a result and life just goes on as before as if events never actually happened.”

They continued by criticizing the show for its recent “retcons,” which are modifications made to a program’s past and history.

The choice to turn Toyah into a surrogate mother after her horrifying rape in the early 2000s serves as one example of this.

Show executives recently carried out the plot, which drew a lot of criticism, even though it showed Toyah talking to people about the morning-after pill after the terror attack and there was no obvious pregnancy.

The fan that was blowing said: “Bizarre retcons and scenes or dialogue deliberately added to plug obvious gaping holes in a story further insult the audience’s intelligence and expose the writers for what they are – lazy and talentless.”

These days, it seems like screenwriters basically throw any old s*** at the wall and hope something sticks.

“An additional title that says, ‘We’ve given up on this show guys, whether or not you do the same is entirely your choice,’ may as well flash up on screen at the start of every episode. Appreciate it!”

Another Corrie watcher echoed their sentiments when they said, “The legends of yesteryear must be turning in their graves at what a Dog’s Breakfast Corrie is now.”

The news that Helen Worth is leaving the soap opera after 50 years has been confirmed in recent weeks, dealing the series yet another serious blow.

Her departure coincides with The Sun’s revelation that she has only made eight appearances on the soap opera this year, with Gail Platt failing to make an appearance in any significant plots.
