Soap villain Joel Deering (played by Calum Lill) was finally exposed this week following months of deception. Fans will remember that the vile lawyer Joel was responsible for the disappearance of troubled teen Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton).
Joel insidiously infiltrated Lauren’s life, initially assisting her with bills before manipulating her into a sexual relationship. He then left her for dead after violently attacking her during a heated dispute.
Lauren made an unexpected return to the cobbles, much to Joel’s surprise, and disclosed that she was carrying his child, prompting Joel to attempt to murder her. In distressing scenes, Joel drugged Lauren in a desperate bid to terminate the pregnancy.
However, his horrific plan failed when she went into premature labour and the baby, named Frankie, survived, reports the Manchester Evening News.
Despite believing he had evaded justice for his crimes, the truth emerged this week. His fiancee Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown) discovered that Joel had assaulted Lauren, realising his true nature as an abuser and groomer.
In a shocking turn of events, Joel preemptively approached the police, weaving a web of lies about Lauren. He confessed to having a sexual relationship with the teenager but then falsely claimed that Lauren had procured illegal abortion pills in an attempt to abort the baby.
In a gripping scene at the station, Joel found himself in handcuffs while Lauren faced DS Swain’s (Vicky Myers) intense interrogation.
But viewers are buzzing with theories that Joel might snatch baby Frankie in a dramatic twist. One anxious fan posted: “I hope Joel doesn’t kidnap Frankie.” Another speculated: “Lawd Joel isn’t gonna run with Frankie is he?” and a third cautioned: “If you kidnap Frankie, Joel.”
Speculation is rife among Corrie enthusiasts, with one musing on a Facebook fan page: “What does everyone think will happen with joel? Will he be released and cause trouble or will they bang him up?”
