Following Helen Worth’s announcement of her resignation from the ITV soap opera, Coronation Street executives have now disclosed Gail Platt’s destiny when she departs the cobbles later this year.

Insiders on Coronation Street have revealed the exit of one of the show’s most beloved characters.

As she leaves the venerable series, Gail Platt, a mainstay of the program, will not meet her demise, the producers have promised fans.

The character played by the 73-year-old Helen Worth, who has been a mainstay of the ITV soap opera since her debut in 1974, is scheduled to say goodbye to the audience this year.

Gail will have a “happy ending” when she leaves Weatherfield, the showrunners have recently said.

Executive producer Iain MacLeod has stated, as reported by the Daily Star’s Hot TV column: “Gail won’t die. It didn’t seem appropriate to kill her off. Gail’s departure is a wonderful tale. ‘What do the viewers want to see?’ I wondered.

“Gail’s life has not been easy. She experienced a challenging upbringing and had unsuccessful marriages. We decided that a happy ending for her is what the audience truly wants, so that’s what we’re doing.”

Helen has apparently approved of the way her character’s journey ends, and she is getting ready to film her last scenes soon.

“Helen loves the storyline,” Iain hinted, going on to say, “It’s the perfect ending for Gail,” which is why I can now sleep at night. You do not want to force someone to accept an unhappy ending after fifty years of marriage.”

The executive producer of Corrie continued by implying that Gail’s departure from the cobbles will create a lot of agitation among her family, particularly her son David (played by Jack P. Shepherd) and daughter Sarah (played by Tina O’Brien).

He went on to say, “The rest of the Platt family will experience a great deal of drama in addition to Gil’s happy ending. It will set off a furious drama full of twists and betrayals. Something will be left behind by her departure.”

Before 2024 comes to a close, Helen said last month that she will be leaving the cobbles. According to soap opera executives, Gail would “bid farewell to Weatherfield in a major storyline for the Platt family”.

She uttered these moving words: “I made the decision at the start of the year and spoke to the producers who were very kind and understanding.”

I consider myself extremely fortunate to have worked with outstanding performers, directors, and crew members, as well as to have consistently been offered the most amazing screenplays.

“The past 50 years have flown by and I don’t think the fact that I am leaving has quite sunk in yet.”
