Coronation Street fans are convinced that a major spin-off could be in the works after a very telling comment was made during Monday’s (July 29) episode

Coronation Street fans are convinced a potential spin-off for a much-loved character is in the works.

Soap icon Gail Platt, portrayed by Helen Worth, is set to bid farewell to the cobbles later this year, marking an end to her 50-year tenure. The show’s producers have assured fans that her exit will tug at their heartstrings.

The surprise departure of the soap stalwart is part of a significant new plot twist for the Platt family. Additionally, it has been disclosed that Martin Platt, played by Sean Wilson, will return as part of Gail’s storyline.

And now, after watching the episode on Monday (July 29), viewers are convinced the programme hinted at a possible spin-off featuring Gail.

In the episode, Rita Sullivan (Barbara Knox) and Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls) caught up over drinks at the Rovers Return Inn. They fondly remembered a past holiday to Majorca, which included several Weatherfield women back in the 70s, reports the Liverpool Echo.

The memorable trip in 1974 saw Hilda Ogden, Emily Bishop, Rita, Mavis Riley, Deidre Barlow, Annie Walker, Betty Turpin, and Bet Lynch jet off to Spain in a special Corrie episode.

During their nostalgic chat, Audrey suggested to Rita: “We should do that soon, one last hurrah.”

This comment has led fans to theorise that the soap might revisit Majorca for a special spin-off or a series of episodes centred around Gail.

A fan excitedly posted on X: “We should do that soon, one last hurrah” Audrey’s words about the girls’ trip to Majorca could be a massive clue. YES! A week of episodes with Audrey, Gail, Rita, Mary, Evelyn, Sally, Debbie, Eileen, Carla and Jenny on holiday together would be the best thing they’ve done in years.”

Another fan echoed: “Yes. Yes. Yes. A million times Yes.”

Meanwhile, a third viewer concurred, writing: “Dear Producers, please please please can we see an episode with Gail, Rita and Audrey on a girl’s trip! ” Another response came in the form of a plea: “Don’t tease it without making it actually happen.”
