The man Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) thought she would spend the rest of her life with, Damon Hay (Ciaran Griffiths), was recently detained by armed police during a botched robbery, and her hopes were dashed on Coronation Street.

Damon had only consented to take part in the heist in order to shield Sarah and Bethany (Lucy Fallon) from his brother, Harvey Gaskell (Will Mellor). Harvey, although being incarcerated, endangered Sarah and her daughter’s life by hiring a hitman to try and murder them.

Damon understood that giving in to his brother’s demands was the only way he could keep them safe.

Damon entered a guilty plea in court. Sarah was told by his lawyer Dee-Dee (Channique Sterling-Brown) that he had done this for her and that he had given his life to protect Sarah and Bethany during the heist.

Given this, Sarah visited Damon in prison to tell him how much she cared and that she was ready to wait for him. Damon is a nasty person who will never change, so when he told her it was over between them, she was stunned.

Future episodes will have Sarah battling on the day of Damon’s sentence. She confides in Gary Windass (Mikey North), who is worried about Liam (Charlie Wrenshall) becoming suicidal in the past due to the bullying he experienced.

After returning to Gary’s apartment, the two discuss Liam’s situation with Sarah once more. Gary informs Sarah that their relationship is in jeopardy due to Maria’s (Samia Longchambon) overly protective behavior toward her son.

They are unaware that Maria is observing everything through a covert camera that she has installed to monitor Liam.

Then, Sarah receives a call from Dee-Dee with terrible news. Damon received a six-year prison sentence.

While Maria watches, Gary holds Sarah in his arms as she sobs and offers consolation.
