Recently, Fiz Stape (Jennie McAlpine) encountered Alina Pop (Ruxandra Porojnicu), which completely turned her world upside down on Coronation Street.
Tyrone (Alan Halsall) dumped Fiz to be with Alina when she was last in Weatherfield.
Prior to the character’s return to Romania, it was hinted that she was pregnant with Ty’s baby.
In an episode of the ITV soap that aired a few days ago, it was confirmed Alina had given birth to Tyrone’s son and called him Dorin.
Alina had returned to Manchester from Romania because she was called to attend a human trafficking trial as a witness. Of course, because it’s such a small world, it wasn’t long until Alina had come face to face with Fiz and Tyrone and eventually revealed the truth about little Dorin.
Amid Tyrone coming to terms with the fact he has a son, we’ve also seen Fiz battle with her emotions. While she is trying to support Ty, she’s also dealing with her anxiety surrounding the fact the woman who ruined her relationship is back on the cobbles.
If it’s happened once before, it can happen again – right?
‘She has a scene where Cassie says: “oh Tyrone loves you.” Fiz says the words – I know he does and I know he wouldn’t do that to me again. But there’s probably something in her which thinks: “Could he? Would he?”‘, Jennie McAlpine told us, discussing Fiz’s fear surrounding Alina’s return.
‘It is bringing back all the feelings of inadequacy and betrayal that she had when the affair happened, when Alina was not in the picture she had managed to move on and believe Tyrone would be loyal but you can’t blame her for worrying now there is a child bringing Alina and Tyrone potentially closer.’
She added: ‘The worst thing for her is that it’s brought all those emotions she thought they’d buried back again. Fiz’s relationship with Tyrone was back on track – everything was normal, yes there was chaos, Hope was possibly kicking off at any moment, but they had normal family life, and she was loving it.
‘They are finally all together under one roof as a family after Fiz working away, then all of a sudden this is thrown into the mix, no one wants to have a constant reminder of a partner’s infidelity.’
After Fiz bumped into Alina at Frescho’s carpark, she could’ve returned home and forced herself to forget about the entire event. Tyrone wouldn’t know, those difficult feelings wouldn’t resurface, things could continue as normal.
While this was a possibility, Jennie revealed to us her character knew burying her head in the sand and never telling Tyrone about Alina only would’ve caused bigger problems further down the line.
‘Fiz did the right thing by telling Tyrone but when it’s confirmed that the baby is his she feels like her life has been turned upside down all over again. What does this mean for them as a family?
‘It changes everything, there is a child who Tyrone will want to be involved with and therefore Alina is back in their lives for good too.’
