Coronation Street star Channique Sterling-Brown has inadvertently leaked a major detail connected with the exit of Gail Platt
Coronation Street star Channique Sterling-Brown, who plays Dee Dee Bailey on the cobbles, has inadvertently revealed a major detail of Gail Platt’s exit storyline, as the cast film late into the night.
Helen Worth, 73, had announced that she would be retiring from the ITV soap at the end of 2024 and as part of her exit, soap bosses had brought back Sean Wilson to reprise his role as Gail’s ex-husband Martin Platt. Unfortunately, Sean had to leave the soap again “for personal reasons” before he had finished filming leaving the producers to rewrite and film a new exit storyline for Gail.
Channique has given a clue as to which way that story might be going now with her photo that she posted on Instagram, along with the comment: “Nothing like a night shoot to make you regret dancing until 2am”. In her photo, it shows that Gail’s house, No. 8 Coronation Street, is up for sale.
Gail moved into the house with Martin back in December 1991 but 33 years later, it looks like their home would be leaving the family. Currently, Gail and Martin’s son David Platt is living there, with wife Shona and David’s children, Max and Lily. Gail’s daughter with Martin, Sarah Platt, lives in her own flat with her children, while her eldest son Nick Tilsey also lives away from the family home.
Taking to social media, fans feared that the abrupt changes could mean bosses wanted a sadder exit for Gail, or that bosses may be forced to make this the case now that filming is “in chaos”. Viewers are now pleading with bosses not to kill off Gail, fearing this is on the cards.
One fan wrote: “Omg… sounds like maybe Helen has gone to the bosses and said that she doesn’t want to leave this way anymore and now this scares me she’s decided she wants Gail to be killed off instead. I’m actually scared.”
Another fan said: “Dear #Corrie producers…. whatever you do, DO NOT kill off Gail Platt.” A third fan wrote: “I swear if Gail gets killed off,” as a fourth said: “Gail best not be getting killed off.”
Speaking about her decision to leave Corrie, Helen said: “This year felt like the perfect time to leave the show after celebrating 50 years in the most wonderful job on the most wonderful street in the world. The past 50 years have flown by and I don’t think the fact that I am leaving has quite sunk in yet.”
Since joining the soap in 1974, Helen has gone on to make her character one of the most recognisable in TV history and she has become one of the most celebrated soap stars of all-time.
