Before Paul’s battle with MND comes to an end he has laid out guidelines for his loved ones, but Billy’s ‘selfish’ antics meant he lost a special speech.

Coronation Street viewers were left ‘fuming’ with Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) after he forgot to charge Paul Foreman’s (Peter Ash) speaking machine as his health deteriorates. As the beloved builder continues to struggle with motor neurone disease he relies on a communication aid to speak with his loved ones including his heartbroken husband Billy.

As Paul’s battle with the devastating condition is coming to an end, he has started preparing memories to leave behind for his family and Billy.

During Wednesday’s trip to Weatherfield (September 4), Paul recorded a manifesto of all the things he’d like Billy to do after he’s gone, including finding love once more.

Billy and Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby) took their positions on the sofa ready to hear Paul’s gut-wrenching list, but it didn’t go to plan.

But when Paul attempted to play his message, the synthesiser ran out of power as Billy after couldn’t find the charger.

The blunder meant all of Paul’s hard work was lost leaving them all deflated.

Summer took charge of the situation and ordered Billy to get some fresh air while Paul rested. She then uses “all of her patience” to help Paul re-write his manifesto using a letter board and Summer transcribing.

When Billy returned home, he listened to Paul’s guidelines in a very emotional scene.

But Corrie fans were left fuming at Billy’s blunder and took to Reddit to air their frustrations, with one viewer writing: “Billy is a selfish. He is a terrible, controlling partner and Paul deserves better.”

A second asked: “How can Billy lose a charger that keeps the only form of communication, for Paul, alive? I can see why, with the storyline but it’s so unrealistic. It’s frustrating, as a mum of a disabled child who has zero communication… Ugh!”

A third chimed in: “Went for a walk, didn’t bother to go into Curry’s to buy another charger. Good going Billy.”

“So out of order, I swear they’re trying to make Billy seem flippant”, added another
