According to reports, the producers of Coronation Street are lining up Cold Feet actor John Thomson to return to the cobbles and take over as Sean Wilson’s Martin Platt.

In order to fulfill Gail Platt’s leave plotline, Coronation Street executives are allegedly planning to bring back a well-known face to the cobbles as Sean Wilson’s character Martin Platt.

It was announced earlier this year that Sean was heading back to Weatherfield as Martin as part of Helen Worth’s final scenes of the ITV soap after revealing she was quitting the iconic role after 50 years.

However, it was confirmed over the weekend that Sean stepped down from his Corrie comeback “due to personal reasons” and that Martin will no longer be part of Gail’s departure as orginally planned.

Rumours have started swirling on how Gail will leave Weatherfield and it has now been reported tht John Thomson is set to make a comeback as biker Jesse Chadwick, who was last seen on screen back in 2010.

Good Morning Britiain’s entertainment editor Richard Arnold appeared on the ITV breakfast show on Monday (August 19) to discuss the latest Coronation Street news.

Richard said: “It has been reported that John Thomson, who played Jesse Chadwick back in 2008, will be riding back on the street for Gail’s exit storyline so it could be a chance for her to grapple with Eileen again. Eileen and Gail’s feud, of course, is legendary.

“I saw Sue [Cleaver, who plays Eileen Grimshaw] last week actually for dinner again but she’s very excited about John coming back and stuff and the prospect of a feud between the two girls again. Stay tuned for more Corrie news in the future when we have it.”

Jesse’s return gives Gail the chance of a last laugh over enemy Eileen Grimshaw — who Jesse dated — before she leaves later this year.

It comes after John previously said he would never return to the cobbles saying: “I don’t want to be known as Jesse Chadwick, children’s entertainer, for the rest of my life.”

He told Metro back in 2012: “I’ve been fortunate. I’ve had a varied career and like popping in and out of things. I was in it for ten months and felt I’d run my course.”

Fans will have to wait if Jesse returns to Weatherfield and exactly how Gail Platt will leave after five decades on the cobbles.
