After a ‘clue’ was revealed on Wednesday’s episode of the ITV soap opera, viewers of Coronation Street are certain that Lauren Bolton is concealing yet another enormous secret. After going missing for several months, the young character, portrayed by Cait Fitton, has just made her way back to the cobblestones.
It was revealed that her disappearance was caused by the evil solicitor Joel Deering (Calum Lill). Joel’s horrifying crimes were finally revealed this week.
Last year, Joel pushed his way into Lauren’s life by helping her pay her bills and then coercing her into a romantic connection.
After a furious altercation during which Lauren brought up the name of his fiancée, Channique Sterling-Brown’s Dee-Dee Bailey, he viciously beat her and left her for dead. In the meantime, Joel was able to stay undercover thanks to the help of dishonest police officer Kit Green (Jacob Roberts), who planted Lauren’s DNA in Nathan Curtis’ (Christopher Harper) van and so linked him to Lauren’s disappearance.
Watchers will recall that in the past, Nathan mistreated and pampered Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon), which made Bethany think he was also responsible for Lauren’s disappearance. But according to the Manchester Evening News, Lauren told Joel that she was pregnant when she got back.
Joel forced Lauren to lie, saying that Nathan, not him, had mistreated her, in a bizarre turn of events. Joel attempted to drug the infant and kill her in a desperate bid to end her life.
His horrible scheme backfired when she went into early labor and the kid lived.
Joel thought he had dodged the consequences of his actions very well, but this week the truth came to light. But in a stunning turn of events, Joel deceived the authorities by falsely claiming that Lauren had tried to abort her pregnancy by obtaining abortion drugs illegally.
But Lauren is not without hope, since Dee-Dee has teamed up with her to bring Joel to justice. After a particularly illuminating moment, fervent viewers are now rife with suspicion that Lauren is hiding yet another secret.
In the episode that aired on Wednesday, August 21, Bethany approached Lauren at the hospital. Bethany was upset that Lauren had changed her narrative and was now blaming Joel for her absence rather than Nathan.
Despite Lauren’s adamant denials, Bethany said, “I think you know a lot more than you’re letting on.”
Those who believe that Lauren’s evasive gaze conceals secrets that are just waiting to be revealed were not blind to her dubious behavior.
There is a lot of conjecture on a Coronation Street Facebook fan community. One fan speculates: “I still don’t fully trust Lauren; I think she’s hiding something.” I have no doubt about it.”
Echoing the sentiment, another replies: “I actually thought exactly the same thing tonight she looked very shifty. But she’s told so many lies it’s hard to believe anything she says really.”
A third suggested: “Going by the look on her face as Bethany, or was it Daniel, walked away, I think you are so right there, seems there’s more shocking secrets to come out still.”
Someone else went on: “Def still something to come,” alongside another comment that reads: “Yes and shifty when asked about Nathan.”
