EXCLUSIVE: Coronation Street actor Paddy Bever gave his thoughts on Helen Worth leaving the ITV soap.

For the first time, Coronation Street actor Paddy Bever discussed his feelings about Helen Worth leaving the ITV soap opera. The youthful soap opera star, well-known for his portrayal of Max Turner, will soon bid adieu to Helen’s character, Gail Platt.

Before the end of 2024, the beloved character will be leaving Weatherfield behind. Since her 1974 debut, Helen has been a beloved character on the show, spending 50 years in the role of Gail.

“This year felt like the perfect time to leave the show after celebrating 50 years in the most wonderful job on the most wonderful street in the world,” Helen said in a statement announcing her departure.

“I made the decision at the start of the year and spoke to the producers who were very kind and understanding.”

She added: “I have been truly blessed to have been given the most incredible scripts week in week out, and to have worked with fantastic actors, directors and a brilliant crew. The past 50 years have flown by and I don’t think the fact that I am leaving has quite sunk in yet.”

During the RadioTimes.com Soap Awards on Saturday, July 13, at Manchester’s Midland Hotel, the young actor opened up to Express.co.uk about his on-screen grandmother’s first-ever departure from the soap opera.

“I think Helen is the kindest soul,” said Paddy. She is one of the most beautiful people I have ever met and she truly has a radical kindness about her that always makes me feel safe and at ease.

“While I’m heartbroken to be losing Helen, I’m also really happy for her and all that she has accomplished. That’s why it’s bittersweet.

Actress Tina O’Brien of Coronation Street has stated that she would be “devastated” if she is not able to collaborate with her on-screen mother in her last scenes.

Express.co.uk quoted her as saying, “I’m really happy for Helen, but I’m really sad about her leaving.” That’s good, actually, because she is ready for it and wants it.”

Regarding Gail’s last scenes, Tina said, “I’m really hoping so, I’ll be absolutely devastated if I’m not!” in response to the question of whether or not she will appear with her on-screen mother. “It would be terrible,” she continued.
