More Coronation Street actors should depart the ITV soap opera, according to a Doctor Who executive, so they can embark on TARDIS adventures.

With the success of Millie Gibson’s debut, the showrunner of Doctor Who has his sights set on the Coronation Street actors.

Russell T. Davies, the showrunner, executive producer, and writer who played a pivotal role in the BBC drama’s revival in 2005, has returned to the universe of Doctor Who once more.

Adding fresh energy to Doctor Who is a new cast, which includes Millie as Ruby Sunday and Ncuti Gatwa from Sex Education as The Doctor.

She joined the cast of The Church on Ruby Road, the Christmas special from the previous year, and is most recognized for her role as Kelly Neelan on Coronation Street on ITV.

During her three years on the cobbles, Kelly had a rough time, particularly after learning that her friend and caregiver Gary Windass (Mikey North) had slain her father Rick (Greg Wood).

Millie was prepared to journey across time and space with The Doctor some months after leaving the ITV soap opera.

In an interview with Metro.co.uk, Davies gave his explanation for being drawn to the 20-year-old: “In Coronation Street, there is a long tradition of the unpopular girl becoming the popular girl.

“Katrina Kelly’s narrative as Becky McDonald is now observable with Claire Sweeney.

“Give me three years, and everyone will have conveniently forgotten that Claire Sweeney was a heroin addict to begin with, and she will be wearing full makeup and standing at the Rovers bar.”

“I’ve worked on soap operas, so I was drawn to Millie’s performance because writers can tell when they like someone.”

He said, “Oh yeah, I won’t name names but there is always a couple I’ve got my eye on,” in response to the issue of whether he would want to see more soap opera stars join Doctor Who.

“There are some people on Coronation Street right now that make me think, ‘Oh my goodness, please go or I’ll take you!'”

Not only has EastEnders actress Bonnie Langford reprised her role as Mel Bush, a companion of the sixth and seventh Doctors, in the science fiction series, but Gibson is not the only soap opera woman to have starred in it.

Anita Dobson from EastEnders, widely known for her role as Angie Watts, joined as the enigmatic Mrs. Flood, while Jemma Redgrave from Holby City is the person behind UNIT chief Kate Stewart.

“When they are all in the studio, they are the kind of days where you relax.

“Because they’ve seen it all. They’ve done the soaps, they’ve done the West End, independent theatre, independent film, big movies.”
