Billy Mitchell of EastEnders was devastated to learn the truth about his mother’s passing.
Spoilers for the episode that will air on Wednesday, July 10th, which you may watch on BBC iPlayer right now, are included in this post.

In the most recent episode of EastEnders, Perry Fenwick’s character Billy Mitchell learned the truth about his mother’s passing, leaving him devastated.

Billy, a market stall holder, had planned a family celebration for his father Stevie’s birthday, which led to a shocking revelation. The party was interrupted by a suspicious Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden), prompting Stevie (Alan Ford) to finally admit that Billy’s mother Val had died – having taken her own life many years ago.

Billy and his half-brother Teddy (Roland Manookian) were left shocked as Stevie confessed that his affair with Teddy’s mother had driven Val to suicide when Billy was only nine years old.

A devastated Billy had spent his entire life believing that his mother had abandoned their family and was still alive somewhere.

The additional revelation that Stevie had started a new family with Teddy, while young Billy was placed in care, led to a violent confrontation as Billy lashed out at his newfound brother, reports the Daily Star.

Billy, who was distraught about learning of his mother’s passing, said he couldn’t stand to be near Stevie and Teddy any longer.

Phil was especially amused by Stevie’s most recent trickery and urged Billy to see that Stevie was untrustworthy and ought to be permanently banished from the Mitchell household.

Billy broke down in a message to his girlfriend Honey (Emma Barton), who was away tending to her ailing Aunt Caroline. He was at a loss for words when he delivered the heartbreaking news of his mother’s suicide.

Teddy visited Billy once more in the interim and informed him that he was unaware of Val’s passing. He urged Billy to stick with their developing brotherly bond.

Teddy maintained that Billy was superior to clan leader Phil because Billy was affluent in terms of his loyal loved ones, even when Billy related his years spent at the bottom of the family hierarchy.

Teddy later proposed that his father leave Walford after they had a drink outside The Vic. Teddy remarked, “You turned mum into some big lie as well,” during a tearful talk. Mother, like though she were simply a random female you met one evening.

You’re unable to stop yourself, are you? You simply can’t stop lying now that you’ve lied all your life. You and Billy are not the only ones who have flushed down the khazi.”

“So what happens now?” Stevie asked Teddy, taking a swig of his drink. Teddy answered, “Well, that’s me and Billy now, so I think it’s best you go.”

Stevie glares at his son, appearing furious and disappointed. Will he ever truly leave Albert Square?

Billy was shocked to learn that his son Will (Freddie Phillips) had misconstrued his annoyance and had led him to believe that Stevie was the culprit behind the charity cash theft.

Billy approached Phil, enraged by his persistent lies and encouraged by Teddy’s encouragement, telling him that the matriarch of the family, Peggy (played by Barbara Windsor), would be horrified if she found out.

Billy highlighted that he had spent years idolising Phil, but now considered him “the runt of the litter”, much to the bemusement of the tough guy.
