EXCLUSIVE: EastEnders icon Nina Wadia talked about her son Aidan’s health problems and how she frequently “barely” sleeps because of her fear that he will pass away at night.

Nina Wadia, a former EastEnder, has talked candidly about her son’s medical problems.

Because Aidan, the 17-year-old son of the Zainab star, has Type 1 diabetes, Nina is very concerned about his well-being. The 55-year-old celebrity only discussed her family’s anxieties with the Daily Star.

“Our lives changed dramatically straight after diagnosis,” Nina stated. For the first few years, I slept very little because I was afraid he may hypotensive so badly at night that he would end up dead.

“There is a constant and depressing amount of worry. Things that we didn’t have to think twice about every day were incredibly complicated.

“To give you an example, merely packing for a vacation requires a lot of medication, and when you go to the airport, you have to explain to security why using the body scanning machine could cause his equipment to malfunction. My kid didn’t want to be made to feel different when he was initially diagnosed, and because Type 1 was not well understood, that’s precisely what he was made to feel throughout.

“For this reason, I wrote a tiny book called ‘Bionic T1d’ for readers in Key Stage 2. Because of all the modern technology on him, my son was given the moniker “Bionic” at school.”

More than 5 million individuals in the UK currently have diabetes, yet according to recent Dexcom study, 76% of those who have the disease feel misunderstood.

Recently, during Diabetes Awareness Week, Dexcom ambassadors like Nina have been using the song “I Wish You Knew” to raise awareness of the condition and help others realize what it’s truly like. Regarding Type 1 diabetes, the “I Wish You Knew” campaign from Dexcom is among the most significant ones to date.

Nine disclosed that Aidan controls his diabetes via a gadget known as a hybrid closed loop system, popularly referred to as an artificial pancreas. She clarified, saying, “Aidan combines the Dexcom G6 (continuous glucose monitoring device) with the Omnipod Dash system (insulin pump).

For us, this was a paradigm shift. It required giving up frequent injections and finger pricks, both of which are excruciatingly unpleasant. It was the first time we had been able to get his HBA1C number, which represents your average blood sugar level over a three-month period, into a healthy range.

With the Dexcom G6, we can always be aware of Aidan’s blood sugar levels, which allows us to set alerts to notify us if he has hypoglycemia or is about to get excessively hyper. As a result, I can finally get some sleep at night. It has come from heaven.

In order to manage their diabetes in the way that works best for them, persons with diabetes can link their Dexcom CGM to a variety of insulin pumps, pens, and even smart gadgets. Dexcom CGM really offers the most connectivity options. Additionally, when combined with additional devices like an insluin pump, Dexcom is the only CGM that has demonstrated clinically positive health results.”
