Penny Branning (Kitty Castledine) faced further heartache over the club crush in EastEnders on Thursday, as her father Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) hurtfully admitted she was not his favourite child.

There has been tough times for the Branning family in the wake of the incident at Peggy’s, with Amy Mitchell (Ellie Dadd) fighting for her life in hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest.

Penny was brought in for questioning earlier this week, after police found that extra tickets for the clubnight were released online from her login.

On Thursday, Jack showed little concern for Penny’s fight to prove her innocence, and she pleaded with Chelsea Fox (Zaraah Abrahams) to help, not realising that she was actually responsible for releasing the extra tickets.

A guilty Chelsea tried to cover her tracks by suggesting there must have been a glitch in the ticketing system – something Penny was keen to relay to her father as she visited sister Amy in hospital later that day.

As Penny asked Jack to speak to his police colleagues, Jack accussed her of only visiting Amy in a bid to save her own skin.

‘It’s classic you, isn’t it. You don’t care about nothing or nobody but yourself,’ Jack told her. ‘Why don’t you do us all a favour and go home.’

A hurt Penny then claimed Jack would rather she was in hospital rather than Amy.

‘Most parents are supposed to be subtle when it comes to favourites, but not you,’ she told her father. ‘It’s never been in doubt, has it? Admit it.’

‘You always let me down,’ Jack replied. ‘So yeah, you’re right. If it comes down to a choice, it’s her every time.’

With Amy still in a serious condition after the crush, will father and daughter manage to reconcile?
