EastEnders fans were sent into a meltdown as a former character made a shock return during Monday’s episode of the BBC soap.

In a shocking twist, a beloved character has made a comeback on EastEnders.

During the episode aired on Monday (July 15), available for viewing on BBC iPlayer, Ian is seen preparing to depart for his supposed leadership course, under the disapproving gaze of Peter Beale (Thomas Law).

As Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins) looks through his suitcase, her suspicions are piqued. She questions Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth), whom she thinks is stepping in for her son.

Cindy goes Beale’s Eels, after Kathy’s advise, to confront Ian about a possible affair, but he tells her there isn’t one.

Cindy finds evidence to the contrary, though, and is compelled to convince her former partner George Knight (Colin Salmon) to take her to a mysterious address in the Cotswolds.

According to the Daily Star, Peter follows them while pleading with Martin Fowler (James Bye) to lend them his van. Bobby Beale (Clay Milner Russell) jumps into the back.

After arriving at a picturesque home, Cindy tells George to turn around since she can’t stand the idea of Ian having an affair. She quickly admits that she thinks of Ian as a pillar of stability and that she never thought he would turn on her the way that she has.

When she finally has the nerve to look through the window, she sees two glasses and a bottle of wine on the coffee table. When Ian eventually unlocks the door after she continues to bang on it, she charges across the property.

Fans went into a frenzy as Cindy turned to face Jane in an iconic scene from EastEnders when she introduced herself. On X, the former Twitter, a startled spectator wrote, “Wasn’t expecting to see Jane.” Another person added, “As if Jane is back.”

Someone else cried out, “OMG Jane is back.” After leaving Albert Square seven years ago, Laurie Brett, who played Jane for the first time in 2004, returned. But why is Ian planning a get-together, and what effect might this have on the rest of the family?
