EastEnders viewers can expect plenty of drama as the soap has yet another festive wedding planned with George Knight and Elaine Peacock preparing to say I Do

EastEnders fans love a festive wedding with last year’s dramatic fall-out from Sharon Watts and Keanu Taylor’s abandoned nuptials seeing the groom wind up dead.

Viewers will be hoping for similar levels of excitement when they discover this Christmas will see Queen Vic landlady Elaine Peacock tie the knot with former boxer George Knight after a tough year for the couple that saw them almost split for good thanks to his scheming ex Cindy Beale.

New behind-the-scenes images from the festive event show the whole cast turning out to see George and Elaine get hitched with Anna and Gina Knight serving as bridesmaids. Even Jamie Borthwick was on set as Jay Brown taking a break from his current stint on Strictly Come Dancing to make an appearance.

The cast were seen turning out to a church in Bushey, Hertfordshire for filming as Michelle Collins’ Cindy looked distraught to see the love of her life finally marrying another woman – despite her recent affair with his son Junior Knight. Letitia Dean’s Sharon was on hand to lend her a shoulder to cry on while they filmed.

The images come after pictures of the Albert Square set all decorated and ready for the festive season were released earlier this month. The square has been kitted out with festive lights – the perfect backdrop for some serious soap drama – and the iconic Walford Christmas tree is in place.

With last year’s shocking Walford Six storyline still reaching its conclusion on our screens it’s likely producers will already have something just as gripping lined up to keep viewers hooked for the holiday season.

After Keanu Taylor met his grisly demise at the hands of Linda Carter, Sharon Watts, Stacey Slater, Denise Fox, Kathy Beale and Suki Panesar last Christmas and ended up buried under the floor in the cafe for a few months before the gruesome discovery of his remains there may be some big efforts required on the part of the writing team to match up.

EastEnders has marked its 40th year on air by including a number of unexpected characters to return including the iconic Chrissie Watts (Tracy-Ann Oberman). While the anniversary episode itself doesn’t air until February it has been revealed it will feature a soapland first where the audience will be given the power to decide the outcome of one storyline.

The exact details have remained under wraps but the interactive feature will allow viewers to provide their input on the outcome of one love story on the soap. The results will be delivered in a live episode as the cast and crew adapt to the result of the public vote.
