Emmerdale star Paula Lane, who plays Ella Forster, has spoken out amid concern for her character following her recent attack on Wendy Posner

Emmerdale’s Ella Forster, played by Paula Lane, was arrested in a dramatic episode this week after attacking Wendy Posner, sparking speculation among fans about the actress’s future on the show.

However, Paula has now addressed these rumours and explained her character’s violent actions. She hinted at a bleak future for Ella, suggesting there was “no way out” for her character, leading to the assault on Wendy.

But despite the arrest, it appears Ella isn’t leaving Emmerdale anytime soon. Paula seemed to confirm her continued involvement with the soap, allaying fans’ concerns about what might happen next. After the pivotal episode aired, she revealed: “Ella attacked Wendy because she felt there was no way out.”

She added: “Wendy’s kind words about people caring for her struck Ella hard. She finds it difficult to believe that could ever be the case. She’s frustrated that this new place she now calls home will always know her real identity.”

The actress further hinted at Ella’s future, saying: “There is no hiding only in prison, that bizarrely is her safe place and she knows exactly what to do to get back there.”

It seems Ella will return to the village, with Paula teasing that other characters will help her overcome her traumatic past, reports the Mirror.

She divulged: “I’m really enjoying playing her and all the different levels of emotions she feels and how she navigates this real new life. I think sometimes people’s expectations for a new character are big and bold but if you look closely into Ella she has a lot of depth and the mysterious, uncertain nature of how she will cope is brilliant for me and the audience to discover.

“There is a real opportunity here to watch her grow up again. I hope for her she can move on but the trauma she has experienced will forever be a lasting scar. It will take the right people around her to help support her to enable her to have a happy future.”
