Emmerdale fans confused over huge change to Charity Dingle

After Charity Dingle’s (Emma Atkins) debut scene revealed a very different side to her character, Emmerdale fans were left perplexed.

When the now-famous villager first showed up on the ITV soap opera in March 2000, it was to attend the beloved Butch Dingle’s (Paul Loughran) funeral.

Before making a full-time comeback to the serial in 2009, she stayed in the role for five years.

She can be seen entering Emmerdale and chatting with Viv Windsor (Deena Payne) at the post office and village store in the resurfaced clips. After that, she goes up to Wishing Well Cottage to meet her family.

She was already flirting flirtatiously with her second cousin Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley), with whom she would later have a tumultuous relationship over the years. She then puts her arm around James Hooton’s character Sam Dingle, and he remarks that she looks like a movie star.

But it’s her unexpectedly powerful Yorkshire twang—rather than her blond pixie cut—that has fans talking.

‘I was watching Charity’s first appearance on Emmerdale in 2000 and the difference in her accent and just the way she speaks is completely different and i didn’t recognise her at first,’ the original poster commented on Reddit.

“Obviously, characters on Emmerdale lose their accent after a while, but I think it’s really strange.”

“Charity was way different back then,” said a different user. Short hair, youthful, and sassy in contrast to the episodes of today. Despite the fact that she still looks amazing.

And Cain, whoa! It’s funny how Sam had more hair back then, and he does look like a rock star.

One person said that during her first year on the show, her accent was quickly toned down.

It will take some time for us to catch up to 2009 if we want to watch more of her classic era; episodes that are currently airing on ITV3 go beyond her initial run.

As her nephew-in-law Matty Barton (Ash Palmisciano) is currently incarcerated for inadvertently stabbing her second cousin, Samson Dingle (Sam Hall), she finds herself torn between two families.

In an attempt to obtain information about the situation last week, Kerry Wyatt (Laura Norton) made flirtatious advances toward Josh (Osian Morgan), Samson’s mate and the cause of the altercation.

Kerry made Charity pick a side, and she was mortified to see a Woolpack member mingling with enemy number one.

She will, of course, always support the Dingle family, and Kerry was fired from the bar.
