Emmerdale has evolved over the years from being farm focused to concentrating more on village life in the fictional area of the Yorkshire Dales.

Emmerdale viewers are demanding soap bosses to introduce a new farming focused famiy like in the earlier days of the long-running ITV show.

Back in 1972, when the show was launched, it was called Emmerdale Farm with agricultural life being at the centre of all the drama.

The farm was inhabited by the iconic Sugden family but in 1989 the soap changed it’s name to simply Emmerdale to reflect the village life focus of the Sugden’s.

Then in 1994, the village changed its name from Beckindale to Emmerdale in 1994, after the dramatic plane crash.

Moira Dingle (Natalie J. Robb) is the current inhabitant of Butler’s Farm while Wylies Farm, part of the Home Farm Estate, remains a bandoned. But fans are demanding a new farm is introduced along with new characters.

Taking to a Reddit thread, one Emmerdale fan explained: “We need a new farm. We currently only have 1 farm, which is Butlers farm (Moiras farm), though we have seen Wylies farm quite a bit.

“Would you like to see a new farm introduced? The set of Wylies is already there so why not use it. Would you introduce new characters to run a farm or use pre existing ones?”

They added: “I’d love to see the new Sugden come in and run Wylies.”

A second added: “Would absolutely love another farm as would be a fantastic opportunity to introduce some much needed new characters – which could be multi-generational??.”

A third suggested: “Would love to see a new farm with a focus on organic maybe with a petting zoo, or rescue animals, a wildflower meadow, and a sunflower maze.

“Something more interesting to more viewers than just a meat producing farm. And naming it Emmerdale farm would be perfect!.”

While another added: “Those are all terrific ideas. Yes, yes! A new farm with a focus on organic could be a good storyline for Liam to become involved in.

“It would make Liam more interesting again, and it would be a welcome difference from his storylines of the last three years: his tragedies and his silly affairs.”
