Fans of Emmerdale are certain that a well-liked character will be replaced for Zak Dingle’s impending funeral.

Fans of Emmerdale speculate that the soap opera may be preparing to replace a beloved character for Zak Dingle’s impending funeral scenes.

Steve Halliwell has been playing Zak since 1994, and he has established himself as the Dingle family patriarch. Steve Halliwell sadly passed away at the age of 77 last year after experiencing several health problems.

Zak has been absent from the screen, purportedly residing in Scotland with his granddaughter Debbie Dingle (Charley Webb).

Recently, Emmerdale hinted at Zak Dingle’s death after his family found out he was unwell in Scotland, prompting Cain (Jeff Hordley) to visit him.

Back in July, Emmerdale producer Sophie Roper teased fans with the mention of “a Dingle funeral” set to take place later in the year.

Now, viewers are convinced that this could mean the return of Debbie to the village for the sombre occasion, but there’s a catch they’re worried she might be played by a new actress, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Debbie, originally played by Charley Webb, first graced the screen in 2002 and left the show in 2021 after 19 years. The rumour mill is churning on social media, with one Reddit user pondering: “Anyone think they’d replace Debbie with a new actress and have her return?”

Another chimed in saying, “If Debbie doesn’t want to come back then replace her with another actress.”

A third fan shared their thoughts: “I really hope not! But it would make no sense if she didn’t come back as that’s where Zak is supposed to be.”

Another viewer agreed, stating: “Yeah if Debbie was to come back it would be as a recast now as Charley Webb said she’ll never return to the show.”

Emmerdale producer Sophie Roper has revealed that Zak’s upcoming funeral scenes were emotionally challenging for the cast and crew, as well as the show’s loyal viewers who have grown to love the character over the years, but promises a fitting tribute to the iconic character.
