ITV viewers have grown impatient with the Emmerdale executives and have accused them of being fixated on drug and alcohol conspiracy theories.
In a recent episode of the Yorkshire-based soap opera, Dawn Taylor, played by Olivia Bromley, received the shock of her life when she learned that her best friend Beth had died from an overdose.
In the episode airing on Thursday, she attended the funeral before returning to her friend Jade’s home and running into Clemmie, Beth’s kid.
Clemmie was obviously mistreated, lying on a dog bed, and didn’t seem to know that her mother had died.
Dawn noticed a drugged-up Jade and a threatening man in the other room and knew right once that Clemmie was in danger.
A money exchange took place between her and Jade after she made the decision to take the young girl back home.
When they returned to the hamlet, Dawn had to explain what had happened to her husband Billy Fletcher (played by Jay Kontzle), who was still of the opinion that social services would be Clemmie’s best course of action.
Billy eventually consented to allow Clemmie spend the night with them, but elsewhere in the Dales, Leyla Cavanagh’s (Roxy Shahidi) cocaine addiction continues to be a problem.
While the new plot line surely touched many viewers’ hearts, it also irritated some.
These individuals used social media to voice their opinions after feeling relieved that the standard warning for upsetting situations had finally been removed from the broadcast.
They griped that drug use was a recurring motif in soap opera plotlines and that the show’s producers couldn’t get rid of it.
“How often have drugs been discussed this evening? Oh my Lousie! “a person tweeted their response.
A second viewer responded as follows: “Do drugs or alcohol have to be a theme in every story? Writers, you really can do better.”
Is there anyone in Emmerdale who isn’t using drugs or alcohol, another person asked?
“This program is genuinely addicted to drugs! Oh, and consume. Another wrote: “Wouldn’t surprise me if that kid was hiding drugs, the writers appear to be messed up that way. Any other addiction also – So boring now,” a fourth fan said.”
Leyla’s cocaine narrative is gradually coming to an end, even though Clemmie and Dawn’s journey is only getting started.
In subsequent scenes, her friend Suzy Merton (Martelle Edinborough) was exposed for lying when it was revealed that she was connected to Holly Barton, who also passed away from an overdose in 2016.
Vanessa Woodfield left Suzy after dating her for a while.
However, when she got the chance to identify Leyla as the owner of the cocaine discovered in Take A Vow, next to Jai Sharma’s possessions, she did so.Suzy remained silent.
