Lisa Riley has all but confirmed that a contentious Emmerdale character will be making a comeback.
In late May, it came to light that Paula Lane’s character Ella Forster, a recent arrival, had murdered her childhood friend after the girl declared she no longer wanted to be friends.
We discovered that Ella was from a very impoverished family and that June, the girl’s mother, was the only adult who had ever shown her any concern and given her the confidence that she was valuable. She flushed at the idea of losing June too.
Ella was punished for her crime and, in the years since, had moved from place to place, always having to move on when someone inevitably found out about her past. Ella struck up a romance with the village general practitioner, Dr. Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson).
Lisa, who plays Mandy Dingle, posted a picture of herself and Paula on Instagram with the message, “DOUBLE TROUBLE at the @emmerdale village today.”
Even though Ella’s future is unknown, Liam was overcome with emotion upon learning of her secret. In recent months, the two characters had developed a romantic relationship, and Liam had confided in Ella enough to discuss his daughter Leanna’s death at the hands of Meena Jutla.
Liam became extremely enraged with Ella as a result of the hurt and betrayal. He advised her to leave the village and never come back, but it was clear from tonight’s episode that he might be reconsidering.
Liam spoke with Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarker) in the café about Ella and how he still has some of her belongings at home.
Liam was encouraged by Manpreet to dispose of the belongings, but he was reluctant to do so because he was afraid Ella would return for them and find them binned.
Manpreet discovered Liam later on with Ella’s belongings in a box. They started talking about how Ethan Anderson’s (Emile John) untimely death has left Charles Anderson (Kevin Mathurin) pushing Manpreet away.
Liam was observed thinking about the box containing Ella’s miscellaneous items after their talk. He turned and strolled back down the street, giving the impression that he might not get rid of them after all.
Ella’s return is certain to cause more suffering and drama. Can she, however, find forgiveness?
