The abuse Belle King (Eden Taylor-Draper) has been subjected to at home by her domineering husband Tom (James Chase) has been one of the most prominent Emmerdale storylines in recent months.

The topic will be in the spotlight in the upcoming weeks. Cast members Danny Miller and Lawrence Robb discussed what they believe would happen if their characters learned about the abuse while speaking at the RadioTimes.com Soap Awards 2024, which is sponsored by Inspired Villages.

“They’d floor him,” said Robb, who plays Mackenzie Boyd on the soap, with Aaron Dingle actor Danny Miller adding that they would “have a really long chat” with Tom.

Robb continued: “There’d be a couple of sarcastic comments, and then… he’d be, at the end, just ‘bang!’.”

However, Miller hinted that there was probably going to be another way to wrap up the plot that didn’t necessarily require his character.

“As a viewer, watching it, you’re kind of going, ‘I hope Aaron does it,'” he stated. “But there’s other ways of getting justice.”

Following up, Robb stated that he believed Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley), Belle’s half-brother, would step in. Miller concurred, saying, “That’s the most likely… the obvious one.”

Emmerdale producer Sophie Roper has already hinted that the plot will intensify in later episodes when Tom takes Belle to Wales, saying that “Tom’s coercive and controlling behaviour will see Belle further isolated from her family.”

“The behavior Tom King is displaying is typical of a controlling, coercive relationship, and it will be difficult and uncomfortable to watch at times,” she continued.

“The assistance the charity Refuge has given us whilst researching this storyline has been enormously helpful in bringing this incredibly important storyline to our screens.”

In the meantime, Chase implied that Belle’s family would eventually learn about the actions of his character.

He clarified: “I think something that’s going out in a couple of weeks, I don’t know how much I can say, but there is a sort of moment where potential Dingles notice something, and there’s a moment [where they] come down on him like thunder.”

However, it appears that Tom might get away with things once more. Chase said that “it would be absolutely game over” if they find out, but his cunning might win out once more.

He went on, “I believe that’s why Tom [has] survived up until now.” “He’s so good at hiding it, and he’s so good at manipulating that he can keep the truth at bay.”
