Emmerdale’s Matty begs Amy not to expose his violent secret that could get him murdered

In Thursday’s (July 11) episode of Emmerdale, Matty Barton (Ash Palmisciano) made a last-ditch plea to his wife Amy (Natalie Ann Jamieson) after taking drastic measures to keep himself safe in jail.

Fans of the ITV soap opera will be aware that Matty was unfairly imprisoned after Samson Dingle (Sam Hall) reported to the police that Matty had stabbed him without reason, when in fact, Samson’s nasty pal Josh (Osian Morgan) had caused an accident.

Ash, a transgender man, has been worried about his safety while incarcerated, and during a visitation earlier this week, his wife Amy inadvertently put him in grave danger.

She casually mentioned Ash’s transgender identity after mistaking the violent and transphobic prisoner Robbo for Ash’s compassionate cellmate Les (Stacey J. Gough).
Amy was saddened that her mistake had led to the incident when she saw Ash later beaten in his cell. Ash’s frightened relatives hurried to his hospital bedside.

But Ash later admitted that Les, a buddy of his, had actually beat him up, even though Ash had pleaded with him to do so.

Heartbreakingly, Ash described how he wished he could have run away to the protection of the hospital, knowing that Les was about to be freed and that no one else would be there to support him.

Robbo was threatening me, playing games with me, and saying a lot of transphobic things. He told Amy, “I knew I’d get a proper beating once I was on my own.”

“It wasn’t supposed to be this bad,” he said. “But it brought me here, and that was my only concern.”

After that, Ash had Amy swear not to tell anyone the truth, saying, “Les was doing me a huge favor.” He may be down for years and everyone would know that I grassed him if it got out.

Ash’s mother Moira Dingle (Natalie J. Robb) and uncle Mackenzie Booth (Lawrence Robb) were taking matters into their own hands to get him out of prison permanently when Amy, hailing him as the “bravest man she’s ever met,” decided to keep his secret.

Unfortunately for them, though, given that Samson betrayed them and had the siblings jailed for kidnapping him, it appears that they will be sent down themselves.
