EMMERDALE spoilers reveal Charity Dingle will be left furious with Sarah Sugden after making a shocking discovery.
Sarah – currently played by Katie Hill – has dealt with various health issues after being diagnosed with Fanconi anaemia in 2011.
However, in scenes yet to air Charity (Emma Atkins) is set to make the worrying discovery that her granddaughter has been drinking whilst on her medication.
The character’s health woes began over a decade ago, when Sarah began to bruise and tire easily much to her parents’ concern.
She was later discovered to have Fanconi anemia, a rare genetic disease which developed into leukaemia.
Sarah needed a bone marrow transplant, which became possible following the birth of younger brother Jack (Seth Ball).
A few years later, the youngster next battled throat cancer, with a fundraising page set up to help fund her proton beam therapy.
The page received an anonymous donation of £20,000.
This was later revealed to have been made by Faith Dingle (Sally Dexter), whom Sarah had been unaware was her great-grandmother.
Although Sarah had treatment and recovered, she later collapsed with heart failure as a result of her chemotherapy.
Needing a transplant, a matching heart was found but was later determined to be unfit.
When a transplant became available, Sarah initially refused but ultimately agreed – the process was successful in the end.
The latest drama comes as fans called on bosses to give the character more storylines.
They took to social media site Reddit and demanded a renewed focus Sarah as a character.
One wrote: “When is it time for Katie Hill (Sarah) to have an another sl (storyline) again?
“Like seriously she’s had like only two sls and after that she hasn’t had a sl of her own in years, Katie is a great actress and has a lot of potential to have more sls of her own but doesn’t have a lot of screen time.”
Another fan was in agreement, as they penned: “They don’t even touch on the fact that both her parents have deserted her, and she’s largely brought herself up as her grandmother is always mid crisis.”
A third chimed in: “The writers clearly don’t know what to do with her.
“There could be an interesting story there – how a young person copes when they have a life-limiting condition and how the knowledge of that inevitably affects everyday life – but so far they’ve done nothing with it.”
